Let's talk about Starkville in this thread.
So Mugshots isn't a bar anymore I found out Auburn weekend. I used to spend ungodly amounts of money there when I was in school and when it was open prior to this year.
Starkville definitely needs more bars now.
I want to open a bar where you have to be at least 25 to get in.
Campus keeps improving every time I go. I remember Malfunction Junction and the utter clusterfrick that was.
There's a Buffalo Wild Wings and a Chick Fil'a now. That's weird.

Da frick? I haven't been there in a couple of years. Do they shut down at 9 now or what?

This. If anyone talks shite about Starkville and/or campus, odds are they haven't been there in a few years.

They got caught selling to minors too many times, and their liquor license was taken.

When I first got to State, the Bistro was still in business. I knew one of the managers and got on a first name basis with the entire staff. I can't tell you how many nights I rode my bike home from there or put it in some chicks trunk. They had fifty cent drink wednesdays or something like that. Served pretty good food too. I don't understand why there aren't more bars. There's several together in the cotton district and I love that area, but they are all tiny. Everyone I knew in college went out a lot. There is obviously a large percentage that just doesn't do shite. I think that being the most diverse student body is somewhat responsible. Let's be honest, there's not a ton of african americans and asians out at the bars, but there are a lot in school in Starkville. What's at mugshots now?

The Bistro was bad arse my freshman year. Then it became something else, then something else, and then something else. Everyone just stopped going.
I went to some party at the Deep End behind what used to be Rock Bottom and Up Your Alley (I don't know if that's what they're still called.) I have never seen so many young frat stars and sorority girls in one place in Starkville. There were a fricking billion people there.

Let's go open a bar in Starkville that caters to Asians. We can call it "Fah Rah Rah Rah Rah's". Seriously though, I have reall ybeen thinking a lot about buying an old woodframe off of University as a weekend house up there. I just can't figure out how to rent it out but have it available to stay in too. Unless I created a duplex. Don't have OT/Bo Bounds money so the whole condo thing is out.

I always thought the State Theater was a nice venue. Had lots of potential until they started charging $10 cover.

I agree. A few weeks ago I went to cotton district on a Friday before a football game. It was miserable hot in all the bars. I hate how the Bin doesnt use their AC.

That's why the Bistro was so bad arse. It was the state theatre but not as nice, so people didn't go as often. I never had to worry about cover and always had a seat. I loved going after games and sitting in the balcony with a bunch of friends and getting destroyed while watching football on the projector and playing ring toss.

Can one of you fellow State grads verify this story for me? So, I heard a story that there are a bunch of old tunnels running under the university. Supposedly, these tunnels were used back in the day to run the steam pipes all across campus. One of them runs from McCain all the way over to the physical plant. A friend of mine who was at State in the mid 90's stated that there was an entrance near McCain, and they would get a group together and explore the tunnel system during the night. He could've been pulling my leg. I never heard of them during my years there.

I believe the tunnel thing is true for just about every university.
I think that's how buildings were heated in the old days.
If everyone could RA for a sticky, that would be swell. I've never had a stickied thread.

the tunnels are there

the tunnels are there but they are not elaborate by what most people think a tunnel is. Basically a really big crawl space for steam pipes and other utilities to run through. I had figured they would be filled with water by now.

Tunnels under Mississippi State
Perry Cafeteria Tunnel Entrance
Towards the end of the Perry cafeteria video they show parts of the old tunnel system that they still use today
In this picture it shows a part of the origional tunnel system that doesn't have the plumming running throught it. The parts of the tunnels that are closed off would have two huge steam pipes running down the left hand side of the picture suspended from a support system that attaches to them every ten feet or so. One pipe would be on top about a foot from the ceiling and the second pipe would be under it just off the floor
This picture shows where they bricked the old stream entrance to the tunnels up in the physical plant.

I know forever they have been talking about renovating the old mill and adding a hotel(much needed that close to campus), resturants and shops and things. I thinl they got approval throught the state college board several years ago to proceed but still haven't done anything with it.
