Chizik a disciplinarian?
Posted on 8/25/12 at 12:31 pm to LanierSpots
It sounds like Chizik's discipline policy has no teeth.

Most of the AU problems have been from the young bucks except for Benton..My guess is a maturity problem and an accountability problem..it is one thing for a coach to yell and preach accountability but at AU it seems to be hollow words cuz the kids still dont get it..Not a flame rantards, just an observation from a middle aged man. Same thing happened at Bama under MS and to some degree under Dumbose
Whatever happened to local cops telling football players to quietly get their asses home and then telling the coach?
in that, I think there is old school benefit. Give his arse to Yoxall for a month.

This is how it should be. If nothing dangerous is happening, just call the coach to come get them. But the internet has ruined that. Every damn thing you do in public is now on video.

I think so too but I still say Chizik sits him longer. Too much going on right now.

this is exactly right. It'd be one thing if this hadn't happened in a while, but he's in the middle of something right now that is forcing his hand. It sucks for the people who haven't done anything wrong that their threshold for mistakes is much narrower due to the bad judgment of others. But it is what it is.

I thought student athletes were to be treated just like other students otherwise you are putting them on a different plain.

Rarely does anyone have any facts to back up anything around here.

I feel like a homer Bama fan when I say this, but it's just because Auburn is going through it right now... Alabama did a few years ago when Shula was coach...
I think part of the issue is vetting the players from the beginning. Obviously, people are going to experiment and rebel when they are that age. But coaches know who gives a hard time, who's impressionable, who's a diva, who's got authority issues, etc. I'd be a little unnerved by the actions of a few of the highly touted recruits and how they are pushing back with authority. Only insofar as the people who've been sent home from camps, etc. Usually people can reign in their impulse control or anger if they know it's the means to an end (e.g. NFL, personal success), but more kids seem to be forgetting this.
I DON'T think the way kids are hyped up the way they are now in recruiting does anything to help humility and willingness to respect coaches and people with authority. That's not with just Auburn, but with all schools. The attention and celebrity they are given now would be difficult for anyone to compete with. I also think that when schools are in the position of feeling like they are playing catch up, which Auburn is right now due in part to Tubs and his recruiting deficit, people are willing to take chances with the more questionable personalities in hopes of "catching up".
