Who fricking cares what they were rated out of high school?
Arkansas has made a living off of developing 3 stars into 4 and 5 stars.
Hell, our starting center was a 5.6 3 star and is now the #1 rated center in his draft class
And Alvin Bailey, one of our starting guards, is the #2 rated guard in his draft class and was a 3 star
Recruiting rankings = shite

Actually the true freshman OL for Mizzou that I'm talking about, Evan Boehm, was a higher ranked recruit than 5 of 8 offensive linemen on Auburn's depth chart that I see. But don't let facts like that get in your way.
I think most agree that he'll be good with experience. But you're being terribly naive if you think that his ranking equates game experience on the line. Offensive line is easily one of the tougher positions to anchor as a freshman much less a true freshman.

Not being naive, I know all those things and that's why we like any program try hard to avoid it. Pinkel has only had two true freshmen OL play at all during his tenure, for the reasons you describe.
HOWEVER, it seems to me that we are kinda getting worked both ways by the posters on here. Because we are also being told constantly that our current OL starters, from seniors on down, are not up to snuff in the SEC and are gonna get mauled and worn down and we need to recruit better, bigger guys there to compete. Well, this true freshman OL has a lot more upside, was offered and recruited by multiple SEC teams, and is bigger/more ready physically out of high school than most OL prospects are by all accounts. Of course he will take some lumps early in his first game experience - I'm just saying that if this board is to be believed, our entire offensive line is all going to be taking lumps next year anyway because we aren't up to par...so by this board's own line of thinking, perhaps letting a young prospect with higher, more SEC-level potential get experience now will be a better thing in the long run.

The truth is probably inbetween. By the end of the season he could end up being a better prospect then what you have, but the reality is his first 4 SEC games will be against the #5 (Georgia), #3 (South Carolina), #18 (Vandy), and #1 (Alabama) rated defenses from last season. So he's going to suffer through some serious baptism by fire. I agree he'll be better for it in the long run but this season isn't the long run.

Hey now, who needs facts when you can just post a witty reply like "y'all fcked".
Whenever I want to feel really smart, I come to this board and read a few threads.

Playable talent trumps experience though. It is not like Mizzou doesn't have older and more experienced players they can plug in. Rather, it is that Boehm already plays well above his age. Let's give some benefit of the doubt the Mizzou coaching staff which typically puts out a top tier offense.

Not always. A simple mental mistake by a true freshman can really get your QB hurt. Especially if he's just coming off of a shoulder injury.

Hate to hear that about the two young players. I hope they have a speedy recovery.

I agree to a point performance always outranks stars. Just don't tell Road Gator or most on the Rant.

Sounds like y'all might still be able to cobble together a serviceable 1st. string. It sounds like depth will be a serious issue tho if your quality back-ups are gonna be starting...
You are gonna be running in 3rd stringers & walk-ons to give your front line guys a blow during the game. That's not good, ask any UGA fan about '08 when our OL got decimated by injuries during fall practice...

It's really too bad ruth had to be made of glass but I figure we will be alright with Boehm out there. Could really hurt us in the uga game though

We started a TF against Bama last year at Tackle...not the best plan ever

I'm not worried. Our 1 stars will come in and destroy the 5 star competition. Overrated is overrated.

The freshman will likely have some issues. A lot of first round NFL picks looked bad out of place as freshmen.
The bigger issues for Mizzou now are additional injuries, late game fatigue due to lack of depth, etc.

RoadGator never said anything about stars except for take a look at the last 6-10 national champions and then their overall star ratings.
You may not need highly rated classes/recruits to be competitive but recent history suggests you need just that in order to win it all.
I guess it depends on where you want your program to be.
If you were referring to my threads about your team and where they were ranked, well, that's all I have to start from since analyzing film on all your players is impossible.
Stars matter but they aren't everything. You can certainly find diamonds in the rough but you cannot field an entire team full of diamonds and expect to win a crystal trophy.
Look at our class. It's a nice mix of 3,4 and 5 star players.

That was two years ago.
And those guys are now our bookend all-american tackles.

I agree. Also, they don't just rank these kids because they have nothing better to do. I think he understands the live contact experience. But whats getting lost here is being ranked where he's at out of HS, he might be alittle ahead of the curve. It's not like he's never played a game before. He's practiced against some very good defensive guys all through HS. Not to mention, played under some game pressure competing for state title runs.
I know, I know. I'll save the doom dayers some writing. "But that wasn't the SEC". We'll be finding out about him real soon.
