If your taking the 'personal obligation to players/close bonds' approach...
Would you not assume that he has more personal bonds with the UA's rising seniors, juniors, sophomores and incoming freshman that he recruited and coached for three years...
or the Weber state team, that he hadn't recruited... and only coached for four months. A four month period where he was moving, getting accustomed to a new staff, new facilities, new names...
I'm assuming his personal relationships were not all that close.

This is a good quote though:

"No. 1, I've always had a place in my heart for Weber State," said Smith that December day in Ogden, Utah. "You do that naturally. That's your school, that's where you graduated from, so that fondness, that love is always with you. And again, to come back to run your own program as a head coach again is crucial for me. This hopefully can serve as an opportunity for me to give back something to the university.

The rant is really concerned about the well being of Weber State.

Lets see, here are facts:
JLS came to Long, not the other way around.
And the Arkansas players are very happy.
It sucks for Weber State, it really does. But does it not suck for the Arkansas kids who lost their HC for being a dumbass, in a year in which they were going to be preseason top 10?
Weber State will still go on. But I've been by that campus, its in the middle of nowhere in Utah and add in the fact that it is a tiny school and is the 4th best school in Utah, it isn't exactly a football mecca. The only reason JLS was there was because it was his alma mater and it is a beautiful area to retire in.

"When coach Smith first approached me about returning to Arkansas to serve in this position, he talked about his desire to be a part of the continued success of these student-athletes, this coaching staff and the Razorback program," Long said in a statement.

The players were informed of Smith's hiring at an afternoon team meeting, though they were instructed to avoid talking with media members outside the Broyles Athletic Center afterward. Still, their smiles told the story of their feelings.

It does. But from a business perspective, Weber State is quite a few notches below Arkansas in everything. Like the saying goes, shite travels down the ladder.
And I'm sure Long was hesitant to hire a coach that was about to go into spring practice. But Im also sure that he looked at all his options and that this was his best option by far, even if it meant leaving an FCS school without a coach.

So the answer to the original question is still no, right?
