If I had to fancy an educated guess: the UA lawyers are seeing if they have "cause" to fire him without paying him a dime.
There a slew of legal issues - just off the top of my head--
Are Arkansas authorities investigating whether or not a crime was committed? (I don't think so, because Petrino was too smart to risk that...)
Civil liability for the accident? Can she sue for injuries, in other words? (He is technically a supervisor in the athletic department.)
Civil liability for the people they didn't hire for the job she was hired for?
Can they afford to risk keeping Josh Morgan if they keep Petrino?
Can they fire her if they keep Petrino? (that is all too often the pattern in the corporate world - the lower ranked person gets canned)
ETA - MORE
Can she sue for sexual harassment? She has proof of quid pro quo.
It makes one's head spin. I'm glad we hired Miles.

If he hadn't been fired yet, he's not getting fired IMO.

He is getting fired. I work in the apartment industry, and we had to fire a chick that was having a lesbian affair with one of our contractors wives. To make matters worse, they discussed it over the phone (our calls are recorded) and they were caught scissoring the frick out of each other on camera in one of our model apartment homes. It still took us 10 days to consult with our attorneys and send that chick packing with cause. I imagine it will take this long or longer unless he resigns given what happened. That being said, they cant keep him as an employee of the University because it will set precedence for future cases. Hes out. Just a matter of time.

Side note: Objectively speaking, I am impressed by the majority of Arkansas fans that want him gone and understand why he has to go. I feel bad for Arky for the first time ever. Seriously, this is some bullshite. I would be so pissed if this were Miles.
That being said, the ignorant bunch that want him to stay because he has brought some success to the Arkansas program, him staying is the WORST thing that could happen to Arkansas. He has lost the respect of all of his players, assistant coaches, and the majority of the fan base. I think you will win more games if you replace him this year.

In Hoover?? I vaguely remember hearing a story like this. I rent apartments in downtown Birmingham (and no, I am not a slum lord).

I agree - I remember Miles' tough decision to let RP go, this exceeds that by a significant margin. Arkansas was arguably the third best team in the country last year. Much as I dislike Petrino, personally, that was probably as good a job coaching, anywhere, by anybody, in a while (Arky does not have 1/2 of the overall talent that LSU and Bama have).
This has to be tough, but doing the right thing usually is. While I have enjoyed Petrino's struggles, I remind myself of the personal difficulties he's caused his family (as well as the family and ex-fiance of the paramour), and the extremely difficult postion he's put his employer - an employer that pays him very, very, very, very well.

ummmm..... So his players don't respect him because he was fricking a hot 25 year old? some of the coaches already knew so i doubt they think any less of him. The fanbase that wants rid of him are the holier than though crowd that wanted nutt gone because heaven forbid a man gets some pussy on the side.

Having played on the college level, I can tell you that as a player, it is VITAL to buy into your coach, and what he tells you. When your in a position of leadership, and you do something like this, lie about it, try to cover it up, and its also with someone else thats entrusted with a position of representing the University and its values, than yes they will lose respect for him.
They have some great talent on this years team, and if they can get someone in quickly, I believe that they can be as good as they would have been. They will certainly be better than they would should they keep him. The program can also set a standard that I believe would actually help with recruiting, not hurt. That is if they get someone good in. I believe that AD can, and will. Objectively speaking

Although I really do agree with your point, I think this is a situation where there is a difference.
The reason is that his players didn't have a whole lot of respect for him in the first place at the personal level. There are only so many "MF'ers" and "cock suckers" you can throw around at people during practice before they think you're a piece of shite. His players respect his coaching abilities but they don't respect him as a person. This had been true his first 3 years, I don't know about last year or this offseason because I wasn't at school this past year. Just a little information.
For the record, I have no judgement on whether or not he should be fired because we don't have all the information. Not a single person on this message board does so it is just speculation at this point. That being said he's an arrogant fricking dumbass for getting himself in this situation.

Side question: If he gets fired, what do Arkansas fans think about Kirby Smart? I dont have an opinion either way on him, but I am curious to know what Arky fans think?

They will only dig deep enough to find what they need to nail Petrino. Trust me, in instances like this they are more afraid than anyone of what they will uncover.

I would imagine all the coaches in the SEC knew Petrino was a ticking time bomb. I think Gus knew this and said I will take A State and be at the Flagship in a matter of time. It makes sense now but I still hope they do not hire Gus.
If Petrino is out then let the current staff run it and then after the season hire a head coach and character will matter.
