Alabama and LSU used the same formula this past year. Alabama has used it for most of the last 65 years. Last season LSU was better at the formula than Alabama was for most of the season.

Load the defense with top talent. Use that talent and special teams play to limit the field. Play the game on the other team's side of the 50 yard line. Do not make mistakes on offense that would take the game away from the defense. Force the other team into mistakes and bludgeon them with power when the mistakes happen.

As long as LSU and Alabama have the athletes to beat you down with that type of defense, they will likely keep doing it. When they can add special athletes on the offense they can also step beyond using the o-line to control the clock so the other team has limited chances to cross the 50.

Old school still works pretty well.
