I guess this is a big difference. A&M scheduling a game in Dallas or UT scheduling a game in Houston makes a big portion of their alumni base happy, even if its against a shitty opponent.

Because little, bitty USM would win 3 out of 4.
OM and MSU like to pretend they are SEC contenders.

Ole Miss has said repeatedly we will play Southern Miss.
Didn't know that but I do know Khayat absolutely refused to have us play them. I do see the rationale for not playing them but I'd sure just love to (when we're competitive again) drop about 40 on them in Hattiesburg and then never play them again.
But I will be in attendance for those USM/Miss.St games, rooting for the Maroons.

To compare apples to oranges here when us the last time aTm (SEC) played Houston (CUSA)?

We will forgive your ignorance of SEC things since you are new, But have you ever seen a USM or Ole Miss home crowd?

I wouldn't mind playing in hattiesburg once. The stadium sucks arse but the town itself isn't to bad. Also it would bring publicity for the school visiting hattiesburg. Being from the area I know people are looking for other schools for college, any school besides usm. So an instate school could benefit quite well.....or it could just blow up in their faces, lose to usm, and give those frickers material to talk shite like we all know they would.

This is what's wrong with Southern Miss fans and the other haters out there, you all think it's about "fear." It's about economics.
Ole Miss stands to gain NOT A frickING THING by playing a CUSA team in Hattiesburg. Period.

Right, i wish we weren't playing them. It's funny seeing the rantards here act as if USM is some mighty power or something. They lost to fricking UAB mayne. A team Tulane beat by 30+.

No
Even this year if OM had played USM like they played Arky, OM wins by two touchdowns.
ETA: The only reason OM is not playing USM is because we will not make the trip to Hattiesburg and Southern refuses to agree to that.

If Ole Miss played up to their potential like they did against Arky, then I think we win. Now if we played them like we did against La. Tech, then yes we get our shite kicked.

Let me add that we play Texas this fall and added TAMU. We also have Clemson and GA Tech on future schedules, so it's not like we are "afraid" of good competition.
2 win season aside, Ole Miss is still a BCS school and is still under the SEC's fat TV contract. Scheduling games against a mon BCS school in our own damn state simply makes no financial sense, especially when considering USM's insistence that we play in Hattiesburg. Does Texas travel to Denton to play UNT? Does Michigan travel to Kalamazoo to play WMU? Of course not, because that'd be a waste of money.

To comment on your origional post though, I wish the Big12 would take them, then they would finally have something to crow about. Being the CUSA Champ is like being the brightest retard in school.

i think the arky game was ole miss playing over their heads. the other 11 games were more likely the potential ole miss had

Pretty much the same reason nobody hardly ever travels to Boise. Not because they are "afraid" but because it makes no financial sense whatsoever. There is nothing positive to gain from it.

There is no good reason for either State or OM to play So. Miss. Such a match-up gives all of the benefits So. Miss and only provides State/Ole Miss risk of embarrassment.

Do people from the Hattiesburg area not have cars? I mean....it isn't like the other in-state schools are 9 hours away.
and besides........isn't that what billboards are for?

High risk, no reward or State/OM.
