Why does Petrino seem to struggle on the recruiting trail?

I mean obviously he's a very good X's and O's coach. I would just think that a lot of top players would want to give Arkansas a look considering the last couple of seasons they have had yet they can't seem to lock down a top class. Arkansas is a fairly attractive school too so I just don't get it. Is his personality that bad?

I've talked to some people that have met him and they say that he really doesnt have a great personality. They say he is a nice guy but he is hard to hold a conversation with.

Good question. I really want to know myself...

Our football opts center needs to hurry up and be done so we can be like "look at our nice shite! Come here."

If his behavior in the LSU game is an example of his self-control, I wonder...

he doesnt struggle, its a perception myth that Rivals is always right, just about every single class he has as a HC has been rerated usually 20 spots higher and most ended up in the top ten reranked.

2008 ranked 36 average reranked at 6th

rivals struggles with evaluations

It's Arkansas. While the campus is nice an the scenery is nice, it's gotta be hard to recruit there.

No offense to the Arky faithful.

Petrino if you watch his class introduction looks for a specific type of player, high character, multi sport, long frames and fast and him probably being a bit of a dick does limit his ability to sell the program

Probably stuck in no man's land. He can't bow up to the LSUs, Bamas, and Texas's on the recruiting trail. He also can't necessarily promise kids they'll see the field quickly and often like some schools can.

Also, I've heard the personality thing is true, too.

Arthur Blank is negative recruiting against them.

He's a better evaluator than he gets credit for. He also has the personality of a wet dish towel though, so he isn't going to get a lot of the highly rated kids with virtually unlimited options.

petrino's offense is so good that he really only needs a capable qb. and he'll put him in a position to be successful on that side of the ball.

he, imo, needs a good recruiter on the defensive side.

plus, it's only 2 years of 10 wins. i think after a 10 win season next year or the next, it'll pick up for him.

Arkansas doesn't have very many top recruits.

Petrino's personality sucks.

These are two reasons.

1. He's an a-hole, seriously, he's an a-hole. He likes to be left alone, and coach football. If he isn't doing one of those, don't expect a nice attitude from him.

2. He's a dick, seriously, he's a complete dick.

You get the picture.

Proximity of home to college is by far the biggest factor for kids

Petrino nor the Arkansas Fans think he does. Regardless of what his classes are ranked I prefer to go by the results on the field after they get to college. Do you think the Packer coaches care that Aaron Rogers didn't get a D-1 offer out of high school?

A better question is why do the recruiting services not do a better job of evaluating and projecting players?

The answer is simple. Recruiting services don’t have the resources or the expertise to properly evaluate every high school player in the U.S. Also, there’s good reasons why college coaches don’t use recruiting services and recruiting services “experts” aren’t coaching at the college level. You can probably figure that one out on your own.

Petrino has increased the talent level on campus here with every class, IMO.

It takes time to build a brand.

Also, all the shite you guys keep saying about Petrino not having a personality is kinda bullshite.

I went to his signing day event just last night and he had people rolling. He's dry, but his sense of humor is pretty fricking spot on. We have recruits rave about "what an awesome guy" Petrino is in private and in their homes on visits.

I do think he's above a lot of the arse-kissing and horseshite a lot of coaches will do. He's more of a no-nonsense guy, here's reality, deal with it.

I love this quote from Paul Petrino, who just came back to be our OC:

“If you’re a skill player and you don’t want to play in this offense, your most important thing isn’t winning and being great."

I don't think anybody can deny that our staff develops players to their full potential. So far, so good. We need to win some hardware before recruits start coming our way. Its just the situation we're in with our location.

Probably because the best season Arkansas has had in 35 years equals mid pack of the SEC West.
