Arthur Blank is negative recruiting against them.

Our booster's haven't learned how to properly cheat yet. WE NEED ADVICE!!!
Also, our location and lack of a national brand, it is going to take a couple more years of 10 win seasons, I think, before our recruiting takes an upswing in rankings.

by the way i'm not mad that we didn't land DGB. I'm mad that she has decided to berate our program to a reporter and insinuate quite a bit of bullshite.
She did not insinuate anything. She outright stated that two different Arkansas boosters called their phone and offered to make a donation to the high school and to "take care of anything they need."
Also she did not berate Arkansas. They had high marks on Arkansas and thought they did a great job recruiting him.

He's a better evaluator than he gets credit for. He also has the personality of a wet dish towel though, so he isn't going to get a lot of the highly rated kids with virtually unlimited options.

petrino's offense is so good that he really only needs a capable qb. and he'll put him in a position to be successful on that side of the ball.
he, imo, needs a good recruiter on the defensive side.
plus, it's only 2 years of 10 wins. i think after a 10 win season next year or the next, it'll pick up for him.

actually...we got two at the end of the year. They should make a difference in 2013.
They were great in this class flipping Peters and staying on top of the Philon situation

This.
People aren't seeing the big picture...some Hog fans included. Petrino is good and he's building our program from the bottom up. He's just now getting our "name" out there, he just needs to keep it up and everything will follow.
It's not like he doesn't want to attract the big ones. He was instrumental in getting the new facility plans going.

I get what you're saying but IMO Arkansas was not nearly as down as a "brand" as you think. I mean LSU was way down in 1999 but by 2001 we had a top 5 class

Yes, but you also have a state where you have HUGE numbers of elite talent. All yall finally did was keep it at LSU, Arkansas has to be a national brand, because we don't have that talent. So, we have to be able to goto Cali and Texas and Florida and convince kids to come here and say Hey you can win here too. It's not easy and it's gonna take some time.

How many of those were from Louisiana?
No matter how you spin it, Arkansas as a state is not highly thought of. You have to get the recruits there to see how awesome it really is. That's the kink and Petrino is doing much better at getting recruits to at least have an interest and visit.
Never have we been in it until the end with the #1 recruit in the nation. We didn't get him but it wasn't from lack of trying or failing at the recruitment. It's coming.

Exactly. I tried to say this on one of our boards recently and got blasted. Its not like we are in the middle of a fertile recruiting ground like South Carolina where two 10 win seasons can flip the local kid your way instead of Clemson or UGA. We are far away from any recruiting hot spots.
I compare us to Oregon in some respects. Out in the middle of nowhere with super nice facilities that recruits never expect. It took them being good for almost a decade of sustained winning before it began to show in their recruiting rankings as well. We are going to have to do the same thing, sustained success over many classes, before the top recruits are going to start coming in.

Otha Peters was the 8th best LB in the state of LA this year...We had to flip him from UT.
Peters would have been clear cut #1 in Arkansas
Interesting note: Georgia had 64 kids in the state that signed with SEC schools
Arkansas had 4 sign with SEC and 1 with ACC

I've talked to some people that have met him and they say that he really doesnt have a great personality. They say he is a nice guy but he is hard to hold a conversation with.
I think the same holds true with Saban - I guess probably the difference is Saban is better at selling kids on the idea they could be great with him
And that is something he had while at LSU before he really had his success... some guys are just great closers and little Nicky is one of the best

This this this this.
Most Arkansas fans think two back to back 10 win seasons means we should pull top 10 talent. We have to show we are consistent. Another 10 win season should do that
Never in my life have I seen Arkansas in the top 5 of SO many highly rated guys final lists.
They will come, just keep winning...

I hope you enjoy being a douche
He probably smiled while typing that... so yeah I think he does

I know that he doesn't sugarcoat things, too. He's VERY up front with all recruits. He never says things like, "Come here and you'll start from day one. You'll win the heisman playing for us." Yada, yada, yada. He tells every kid that they have to work to earn a spot...and then once they've earned they better keep working to keep it, because he's going to keep looking for players that are better.
I think that appeals to a lot of players, but probably not the ones who are being told by all of the other programs how amazing they are.
Arkansas will probably NEVER be a top 10 recruiting school. But top 20 should be enough as long as we have a stellar coach.
Would it be easier if we had better recruits? Yes. But it's not impossible. We've been on the cusp for 2 years. Let's see where we are in another 2 years.
