No, I did not go to UA. UAB. As I said, if the actions of an individual you've never met or associate with, makes you embarrassed, or feel bad, then perhaps you need to step back for some perspective.
Out of the thousands upon thousands of Alabama fans and former students... to focus on one or two persons and have your own self worth or basis of fandom based on those, is a little immature and shortsighted. I choose to be a fan of the University of Alabama sports teams, even though I went to a different college. Because of this, my self worth and reputation isn't based on what Updyke did.
Too many fans, like yourself feel "guilty" over what another individual has done. Quit with the liberal buy in and just hold others responsible for their own actions and don't call for killing someone because they've got the flu. Overreaction and hyperbole over the situation, looks and reflects just as bad, in either direction.
I've a feeling both legal institutions will overreact to each situation, due to the publicity involved. Instead of carrying forth a just and fair penalty for each crime commmitted. Both crimes call for punishment, but unfortunately, the legal system is taking a cue from the hysteria surrounding each situation now.

I don't think you're a bad guy and I wasn't trying to take a shot at you with the "UA grad" question. I was just trying to get an idea of your background.
Anyway, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this subject.

Why do these threads always devolve into trash talking about an entire fan base? People that make these types of generalizations are stupid as dog shite.

No worries. Not offended. Just not the type to think someone's opinion is lesser than, because they may or may not have attended the University they cheer for, or if they even attended college at all. As far as the rest of my background, some knowledge of criminal proceedings, and old enough to be the father of many on here. I've seen enough to not be surprised by much of anything anymore and probably a different perspective, based on experiencing more in life than alot here.

I don't mind it. It causes every thread about the teabagger to be anchored or deleted.

If I was Harvey I would just go back to Toomers Corner and cut those damn trees down with a chain saw. If I'm gonna do 13 years I'm gonna make sure those trees never come back. If you do the time make sure you at least finish the crime.

If anyone is "hurt" by this, they're taking a game wayyyy to seriously. What he did deserves some punishment, but some perspective needs to be applied to it.
No dude, Harvey destroyed something that our rivals hold dear. Burn that sidewalker at the stake. frick him. The teabagger should get a lifetime ban along with Harvey (if he ever gets out) from any UA event.

Actually, isn't his entire defense based on fanbase?
He must be banking on having a pro-Bama jury. Can you imagine the questions during jury selection? "Are you a Bama fan or Auburn fan?" " Do you own a plastic elephant?" If Nick Saban fought Cheesedick, who would win?"

Well that's funny but I meant saying that all gumps like to teabag people and all gumps like to kill 130 year old trees. Or better yet all corn dogs like to throw piss bombs.

It goes without saying the kind of person Updyke is. However, if it were his neighbor's trees, how much jail time would he deserve? I'm certainly not familiar with the Courts there, but here I would guess if its a neighbor's trees, there's no jail time, restitution must be made and likely several years of probation. I suppose because the trees are held in higher regard than just some neighbor's trees, some jail time could be received, but I think anything more than a couple or few months is a bit extreme.

Perhaps you are right my felony jail time came from minor stuff like acid shrooms opium and peeing in public three times but i think a year would serve notice a few weeks finally did the trick for me.

ESPN:
Harvey Updyke, the Alabama fan who is accused of poisoning the famous oak trees at Toomer's Corner at Auburn University, turned down a plea offer from prosecutors that would have required him to spend 13 years in prison and never attend a Crimson Tide sporting event for the rest of his life, a source close to the case told ESPN.com on Friday.

OANOW:
The attorney for Harvey Updyke Jr., the man accused of poisoning the Toomer’s Oaks, says his client continues to prepare for trial, adding prosecutors have not offered any deals recently.
Wess’ comments came hours after an ESPN article citing anonymous sources reported Updyke had turned down a deal from the district attorney earlier this month that included a 13-year prison sentence and a lifetime ban from attending University of Alabama sporting events.

If 13 yrs is a plea bargain offer he needs to get it the hell out of Lee county. That's obviously as biased a place as he could get a trial. I could just see some Auburn fan on trial in Tuscaloosa for peeing on Coach Bryant's statue. They'd probably send him to the electric chair. Updyke will not get anything close to a fair trial there.

Damn, hope that nevers happens. Updyke went apeshit just because they placed a Cam (or in his words Scam) Newton jersey on Coach Bryant's statue. Can you imagine the carnage if an Auburn fan pissed on Coach Bryant's statue?

The 13 years is typical ESPN BS based on an anonymous source.. Is it possible that the DA threw that out there early in the process, but I have heard 2 years. He would be out in less time than that.
I wonder who the source was, it certainly was not his attorney
Now I am for a 6 month sentence because you need to send a message to others.
