I feel that the '11 Crimson Tide won't get the credit it deserves in the coming years. Yes, they won the national championship, but that one loss - combined with the fact that they didn't even play in the SEC Championship - will severely hurt their legacy. I know most people on this board will remember them as a dominant team, but I have a feeling that history won't be so kind to them.

Your thoughts?

I think most will be forgotten about the SEC championship, but in the national eyes they won't be as revered as the 09 championship team that beat Tebow in his senior season. The 09 team will always be better because of the undefeated record.

Best Defense of BCS era.........

Weakest schedule..........

Lucky to have gotten to game........

Hell when you compare them to 2011 LSU they don't even match up.

Arguably better than 2009 and maybe the best SEC team of the BCS era but nationally they won't be remembered like that. Because of what you mentioned, and because of how disgusted so many people are with the system, with the SEC, etc.

Dude yall beat 3 ranked teams and were 1-1 against the 2nd place team..............

You aren't even being viewed as having a better season...........

Didn't we just maul THE BEST TEAM EVER?

2009 Alabama team certainly accomplished more. But if I had to say who was the "better" team I'd probably go with this one.

2008 Florida was a juggernaut. There's no way to really judge who was the best unless you go purely by accomplishments (2009 Alabama would be ahead of 2008 Florida then, but I think 2008 Florida was probably a better team).

Yep, not undefeated means not considered one of the great teams.

One of the great defenses, however.

Disagree. I would rank this years team near the bottom. The O and special teams were average. I would put the D at the top. But as a team, UAt 2011 was not great.

I would put 2011 behind the 2009 and 1992 teams. That fluke loss really mars the record I think, even though they got major major redemption for it in the championship game.

Shutting out LSU's greatest team ever in New Orleans is a great memory but not as great as those 2 undefeated teams IMHO.

I know the offense wasn't the greatest, but I wouldn't call being ranked 31st out of 120 teams on offense as being average. Not only that, but the offense also averaged 35 points per game. That's pretty good.

Home loss for the 2011 Bama squad. Bama 2009 > 2011 for just that. Also Bama 2011 did not even win a West title.

LSU beat the winner of the Cotton, as well as the Orange, Rose & BCS Championship Games.

We played a more difficult road schedule & more top ranked teams than any other in history.

We won our Division and conference title, as well as went undefeated in the regular season.

Yet perhaps the greatest season in the modern history of college football will be forgotten because we lost in convincing fashion in the Championship game against a team that was allowed to play with the revenge factor (and quite honestly was the better team in that game without question).

I have the same worry that you do. This LSU team was unquestionably one of the best teams of all time. Yet we won't ever be able to crow about this season, or the conference or Division Championship Crowns that we won.

Bittersweet victories...

But the D was so good, it made up for the lack of O. Kind of like our O did for our D last year.

The offense was at least as good as 2009 and the defense was a bit better. 2009 special teams were clearly better.

They will not be considered kindly only because it did not win the SEC......

If I were a Bama fan.......the NC would suffice just fine.
