I recall having trouble with this in 2009. Is there a certain HD Antenna that will work or do I need to bring a dish?

Last time I tried this I had to use a converter and a fairly large and ugly old UHF antenna ... it works, but the dish is your best bet.
Most of the new HD antennas you can buy that don't look like a remnant of the cold war are not powerful enough to pick up the affiliate.

Get a powered antenna and make sure you got enough juice for it as well. This season we switched to a generator and get better reception.

Yea, we have about 5 or 6 of the new HD antennas. How good is the UA Student Wifi signal on the quad?

I dont know I haven't been a student for a long time and nowadays just use my phone. I'm sure its ok, but streaming is probably throttled way back; especially on gamedays.

Golfer, did you ever figure out what you are going to do? I actually own that antenna that you linked to. And a couple others. We're also hoping to pick up the CBS signal.

I use a cheap RCA antenna (12$)
I live in LA (Lower Alabama)
and I get it well..
but it has had times where it had hick-ups..
I watched the Bama-Flor. Beatdown this year..

Thanks taylormade. Are you picking up the Birmingham affiliate? Any idea on mileage form the tower?

i used this one when i was there for the arky/bama game. I parked in the lots across from arby's. it worked great. used a generator.

You can look up the location of the local HD towers on this website. It also gives you a general idea of how powerful your antenna has to be and how much it has to be above the ground to grab certain local HD channels. You also have to take account into tall buildings around your reception site.

So this should work?
Yes, without question. We use something like that for every game and have had zero trouble, even on cloudy days.

But have you ever gone to Tuscaloosa and been able to get the CBS feed?

I live about 40 mi from B'ham, 5 miles from Tuscaloosa and 45 mi from Montgomery and I can get the CBS affiliate in all three cities.
Tuscaloosa and B'ham are the same.

Just splice into a cable drop and throw a two-way splitter on that bitch.

I have a homemade antenna that works on gamedays in Tuscaloosa. It's made out of coat hangers, so I'd assume one of the fancy $100 ones would work.

Don't try it if you have a dish. Sure an antenna may work, but the Birmingham affiliate is 60 miles away, right on the edge of good reception.

probably need a converter to catch CBS 42 out of Birmingham golfer.
