Maudie the owner is an LSU fan but I don't hold it against her because the food is so good.

Interesting, did not know that. They make some damn good food. I try to get by there and Pesto Cafe whenever I make it back home.

food sucked but that place was a staple on Dickson.

Wow that's crazy, that's a Fayetteville staple. I remember walking past it Saturday night when I came back for the Troy game and commenting on how dead it was. There was only one couple on the patio at midnight which I thought was odd. Guess it was a common thing instead.

No surprise, Last few times I've been on Dickson the place was a ghost town. New owners never have the same swag or connections to replicate success.

I read the story on the Flyer and they claimed they were closed for repairs. I haven't had any food there other than chips and salsa while getting my drink on in years.
Jose's even at its peak, wasn't good Mexican food, but its understandable since it was established before there were really any Mexicans in this part of the country to cook real Mexican food.
It is a good patio to have a few ritas, and thats about all its good for to me.

All this talk about Mexican food made me think of ColumbiaMex. It's the best Mexican food I've had other than Oseguera's on the Square, which is now Celi's.
ColumbiaMex has some authentic shite man, they serve tongue tacos.

If the owners were smart they would turn the place into a bar/tapas restaurant instead of a place to get dinner. No one who has any respect for Mexican food would go to Jose's to eat dinner.
Ritas, chips and dips on the other hand, people will do that all night.

Tapas bar is going in on West street

Everybody on the Flyer in the comments on that article talk mad shite in favor of Columbia Mex. I've never been. I went to some Mexican place over by the Cowboy once, but I think that was something different, or the one that was there before Columbia Mex.
I'm not a frequenter of that area. I go to the cowboy ironically once in a while, or when I want to feel better about myself.

Which reminds me, my go-to townie bar is Arts, because its in my hood more or less.
I drove by there an hour ago, and I saw an ambulance parked out front.
It tells you a lot about a place when its no surprise to see an ambulance out front. I figure its equal odds that someone was stabbed, or died of heart disease.

There are two Mexican restaurants by the Cowboy, one is right next to it, Mexico Viejo I believe.
But if you stay in that shopping center and keep driving south toward office depot, on the left you will see ColumbiaMex. It's next to a hair salon.
It is unbelievably cheap, when I go I get about 4 tacos, a quesadilla, two drinks and dessert for around $8. They also import drinks from Mexico so they have real Pepsi and all that.
