Highly possible since that is where he is living. Makes it easier on the wife and kid to actually take care of him while in the hospital dealing with surgery.

If I were his wife, I would absolutely ask for him to be moved, especially if the same level of care exists closer to home and I knew it was safe to move him.

To me the story would make more sense that it happened in Pitt. Holding true that WVU fans beat him and his wife, but making the rest of the story seem way more plausible, i.e. his hospital location and no police report in M-town.
