CrimsonTideMD, you know darn well they would first have been admitted for tests involving head injuries before any such transfer. I doubt very seriously these tests (MRI ect.) were conducted, reviewed, and the patients were tranfered in under 24 hours without an observational period, nadda. I understand patients are transferred all the time for various reasons but not with these sustained injuries in less than a 24 hour period.

No technically you gave a facebook wall post of only this. Not saying that isn't proof, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
I think the guy is hurt, but anything other than that is speculation with what we know.

And it seem's pretty obvious to me that the police were not immediately on hand to grant any kind of permission to anyone. Else we wouldn't even be having this conversation of whether or not it's all made up

Again I'm hoping this guy is going to be ok. I hope it's false. It looks like an incident really happened but find it far fetched that it actually happened in Morgantown with no reports of police being even called to an incident, no news story, anything. Again it sounds like an real incident that has a fake back story added to it. Probably started by a Pitt fan.

fwiw, it is level 1 according to the website. probably an oversight on his part.

Transferring is not my point.
Just saying it is possible that for someone to sustain injuries in city "A", pass go without stopping, and end up in City "B" hosp.

Police were busy with the traffic and making sure no couches were harmed. But I’m sure this guy had nothing better to do than make up a wild story just to make WVU look bad.
ETA: Read what you quoted. Proof the guy was hurt. I never said I knew where or what actually happened.

Saw this guy's FB pics.
Looks like a red blooded American just like the rest of us.
Very distinct possibility that he was completely unconcerned with his injuries. Instead, he wanted to get back to the OB/GYN that he knows personally to make sure his wife and unborn baby are OK.

3. Your paramedic friend is right, you would take the pt to the nearest hosp ACCEPTING pts. The call goes something like this, "Yeah, we gotta 30 yo male status post assault, vital signs are stable, oriented to person place and time, with a lac on his face." Hosp, "Take him up the road, he's not critical, and we're full."
He didnt just have a lac. His face was bashed in (broken orbital lobe, nose and fractured skull). He sustained severe injuries to the head from blunt force trauma. You don't ship a person to a unit 75 miles away if there is even the slightest chance he could possibly have brain hem. They don't just check your vitals and say "Take him up the road, he's not critical". I don't care if the unit is at full capacity or not. They always evaluate potentially serious injuries.........and sometimes, yes, LATER they may transfer said patient.

I'm going to bed, fellas. All of the facts will come to light. There may not be actual news stories or reports associated with it because of media bias to college sports, but if it is true there will be some type of evidence (police report).
IF this is true, shame on THOSE PARTICULAR fans from WVU.

McChowder, I have no dog in this fight.
You are correct, if a pt lands on the ER steps with a bashed in face, he gets a complete work up before any transfer is considered. I've seen this most commonly with gang associated trauma where one homeboy pushes his shot/stabbed bro out at the curb. We call it a "stop n drop." Homeboy never calls the hospital to check whether or not its convenient to leave his buddy.
However, a stable patient in an ambulance is a whole different story. 100%, absolutely certain the call goes down, and if the pt is stable, the van goes to the next available hospital.

unless the other options are full, or the medics want to take him there anyway. the former happens often and the latter would likely never happen.

I've read this thread, and I can't find where it says he went straight to the other hospital. I could have missed it though. If this thing happened, do we know for sure they didn't look at him first in Morgantown and then send him on to Pittsburgh?

I found you. You're welcome.

Highly possible since that is where he is living. Makes it easier on the wife and kid to actually take care of him while in the hospital dealing with surgery.

Seems to me the severity of injury revolves around the actual fractures mentioned. McChowder throws around several; frontal, orbital, nasal related, but as you mentioned, this could be one in the same.
EMT's can determine fractures in these areas? Digital X-ray's on site? IMO, not far fetched at all to believe that the severity of the injury was unknown at that time, and transport to Pittsburgh was allowed.

If I were his wife, I would absolutely ask for him to be moved, especially if the same level of care exists closer to home and I knew it was safe to move him.
