One of my closest friends (and TD.com user), Gunnery Sergeant Ryan Leach, took a direct hit from a massive tornado in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last week. For those of you who don't know Ryan, he's originally from New Orleans and graduated from LSU.

Ryan was married last October and his wife is six months pregnant with twin girls. Remember the Battle of Fallujah in Iraq? Ryan was there with TOW Platoon 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines (our old unit) and was awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Action Ribbon. Despite his many recent setbacks, he still runs the Tuscaloosa Toys for Tots campaign every year. He also finds time to serve on the local Marine Corps League, the Petroleum Landman's Association and is active in his church.

I've never known Ryan to complain, ever. When I talked to him the night of the storm, he said "Yeah, we took a good hit, but we're O.K." Here's what a good hit is to Gunny Leach. His home, the contents of his home and all of his possessions are gone. Clothes, baby shower gifts, wedding gifts, uniforms … everything is gone. Ryan and his wife rode the storm out in a neighbor's basement (an oddity in the South). Those of you that went through Hurricanes Katrina, Rita or Ike can sympathize.

Our Marine Corps family and friends are determined to help Ryan and his family get back on their feet. If you have the ability to help, it will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

A Frost Bank account has been opened to accept donations. Checks can be made to the Ryan Leach Family Benefit Fund and mailed to:

Checking in from Madison County, Al. I'll keep it short as power\phone\interwebs, etc. are spotty and at a premium. Damage to house and property, no injuries to family. Home secured, checking on and helping neighbors. Prayers and thoughts appreciated. I've never witnessed the amount of support, kindness, unselfeshness, and love I've seen over the last 6 days. I'm truley witnessing the "Gentler Angels of our Nature".

What part of Tuscaloosa is he in? Born/raised and still live in Tuscaloosa and would be willing to help with any cleanup he may be facing. Let us know if we can provide anything.

He lived between 10th and 15th in what was a nice neighborhood. The Cajun Calvary was there all last week and managed to salvage what they could, but he's still basically homeless. Cash is king these days ...
