The football player you saw was Carson Tinker, the long snapper.
He was in a house with 3 friends, his girlfriend, and all their dogs - 4 of them I think.
The boys all made it but were thrown 50 yards. The girl and the dogs were all thrown much farther a didn't live.
My husband is at a funeral right now. One of his employees had a daughter in school at Alabama. She was killed on Wednesday. She was about to graduate and get married next month. So awful.

Like on the news a few mins ago they said still at least 400+ missing in Tuscaloosa. So.....I think at this point they still really can't tell
Perhaps it's poor record keeping, and then again there might be several folks up in the trees downwind. One of my classmates was picked up by the twister that went through Jasper in '74. He hit the ground running about 200 yards away from his ex-house with nothing but a pair of underwear on. The next time our school got a tornado warning, he was absolutely hysterical. After that, every time he went to the principal's office we figured there was a tornado warning.

Everyone I've talked to that has been in Tuscaloosa since Wednesday and has talked to a local law enforcement person is saying the death toll is much higher than being reported because several fatalities haven't been counted yet because of the people not having any way to be identified. By "identified" I mean the official law enforcement finding victims they don't already know and them not having any personal effects (Driver's license, etc) in their possession. I imagine it's similar to the problem search and rescue/recovery had after Hurricane Katrina. If no one knows the person it's hard to identify them. I'm still not sure why these people would't be counted. Seems kind of disrespectful and could make the missing number counts hard to trust. Why wouldn't they count an obvious fatality?

rumors will run wild. After Katrina there were more rumors than one could write about.

I was doing some work here and all of our delivery drives were out and a contractor was needing supplies out off of Crescent Ridge Road in the Holt area. It was in the projects and that area is already not safe before the storms so I'm sure with the chaos out there right now that it's probably amped up a little bit.
Anyways, had to go through two check points, one with sheriffs department and one with national guard. Get out on the road heading to where the contractor was and got stopped by homicide unit that asked what buisness I had back there. I told them I was dropping some material off to a contractor. One of them asked if I had a gun with me, I laughed as I thought he was joking. He said, no I'm serious, you got a gun? I said uhh, actually yes sir I do and I have my pistol permit also. I offered to let them check my permit and the location of my pistol as I didn't want them to think I was going to do anything illegal. He just told me to be careful and if I needed it then use it.
eta - spell checked

I heard that rumor yesterday as well. The person I talked to today was in the immediate area of that neighborhood and was traumatized/in tears all day by what they experienced. They aren't used to what first responders are and had a hard time with it. I'm not talking about them being IN the tornado on Wednesday btw but assisting a search team this weekend. This is where I heard once again about SEVERAL uncounted fatalities that haven't been added to the official totals. I don't mean to harp on the issued I just find the protocol of not reporting updated fatality counts until next of kin are notified strange. Having said that, the fact that they are releasing the names of confirmed victims to the public may explain the protocol.

That rumor is 100% NOT TRUE AT ALL - not clue what dumbass started that, but it is absolutely false. That lake is filled to the top. I've driven/walked by it as recently as 2 hrs ago.

I hate to get in a pissing contest here, but the pictures from that area do look different. There are a few houses here that made it thru. Looking at his pictures and the aerial pictures it looks like someone took a pitching wedge to a dandelion.

That may have been false but I have a good friend that is down there working on shite with Alabama Power and said that they DID find bodies on top of the mall. Not sure how many, but thats pretty messed up too.
The lake thing sounded pretty out there to me anyway.

Thrown on top of Midtown Village or the University Mall? Either way
The person I talked to today didn't mention anything about the lake rumor either. I've just heard from multiple people I respect who don't sit around making s### up that they've heard these things (significantly higher fatality count than the official numbers) from people directly involved in the search/recovery.

Definitely not true. They had dogs searching for bodies in the lake WHILE FILLED WITH WATER. The dogs reached the 6 ft depth point (According to Tuscaloosa News) and did NOT find any bodies!

I keep reading about this yet the Tuscaloosa death toll has been at 39 for a couple of days. Are the numbers being under reported or are the rumors the typical overexaggerated death tolls you often get during major natural disasters.
The report from the Mayor Maddox yesterday was 570 I believe. I haven't heard today (I'm back in Atlanta now). There is a lot of confusion between missing and fatality because many bodies have not been identified and some missing may be duplicates.
Two different cops told me on Saturday that they ran out of body bags
...obviously that could be a "rumor" but I don't know why two cops would spread a rumor like that at separate times.

This was kinda what I was trying to say as well. I've heard from 3 different sources who all spoke to either a police officer or a firefighter that many bodies have been recovered that haven't been included in the official count for some reason. The ONLY reason I can think of is that they simply won't add someone to an official count until they are able to identify and release the names of victims publically after next of kin are first notified.

Hunker down and stay safe. Not supposed to be as bad as last week, but still, I'm sure many are going to be stressed with another storm coming this soon.
