Just to clarify the history:
"Toomer’s Corner has two legendary massive old-growth oak trees. Every time a celebration is held in the Auburn community, the oak trees are always festooned with toilet papers. The history has the “rolling Toomer’s” tradition. Many citizens said that the tradition have begun when there was no building in the city which owned telegraph except the Toomer’s Drugs. Employees of the drugstore would throw ticker tape from the telegraph into the oak trees to signal a win to the public every time their football team played out of the city for away match."
"The exact date of the initial "rolling" of Toomer's Corner by students is lost in history, but it was probably in 1962 or 1963."

So the AU Turfgrass Management guys think that the trees WERE NOT poisoned.
While I would want this to be true, I doubt that guy knows more than the Dr. from the Horticulture Department who has spoke on this. Plus MSU ran soil samples from the different trees and got detailed results.

God, why don't Alabama fans read the timestamps on news reports? Its not friggin' hard...
Then we wouldn't have people posting a three year old story about trees getting poisoned in Tuscaloosa, with assertions that "the payback has begun"...

Now that the Toomer's Corner Oaks have been poisoned, by someone else, I need to add something else to my Bucket List. Suggestions?

You stupid frick! Back in the days of telegraphs, I am sure that the thousands of citizens of Auburn, AL needed to see that ticker tape hanging from the oaks as they went speeding through town at breakneck speed or they would never know the outcome of an Auburn game. One of the lamest attempts to invent a tradition. The reality is it was a play on the Roll Tide Roll thing. Remember the Tide detergent box with a toilet paper roll on either side? Early 1970's is when the trees started to be vandalized.

Anybody else not really give a shite about this tree?
Posted on 2/17/11 at 9:02 am to Broke
I don't.
I think it is messed up that someone would do that, but really don't give a shite in the end.

The incident was harshly condemned by myself and almost universally on all the Bama boards but some Auburn fans are blaming Bama fans in general for supporting it.
I'm not saying anything negative about you personally and I know there have been many bama fans posting their disapproval. However, read this thread. There are many bama fans that couldn't be happier about this and for that some of the good ones are going to end up paying for those idiots. It's a shame but that's how the world works.

So, Auburn didn't have radios and tvs in the 60"s and had to depend on the equivalent of a smoke signal from Toomer's corner? Y'all are some backwards fricks.

RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!
i don't see how this got to being such a humongous story. if they had never talked about it, and simply replaced them... no one would have bitched and moaned so hard about it. imo. maybe i'm wrong. but still, this story is going WAYyyyy too far.

There are tons of people from every fan base conversing in this thread. It not the someone was mean to the trees, its more that a Bama fan killed them. I think it was a shitty thing to do but I am not all up in arms about it.

Did I ever say anything about your school "pal"? no, so you frick off. And while we are talking, Which school actually recently admitted to paying a player and there is evidence to support it? You might want to look that one up asshat.
This has nothing to do with recent scandals. How bout I shoot your tiger or ruin one of your traditions
