So just to be clear. The penalty was correct since the ball was allowed to be snapped.
The total frick up was the official over the ball not noticing UNC substituting 5 extra guys and allowing Tenn to match their substitutions.

If the ump would have not reset and allowed for UT to sub, then that would have allowed UNC to unfuk themselves and they would have either snapped and spiked it with no penalty or kicked it anyway...so not sure that was the critical thing, the ref called it right on the field

I'm amazed how many people don't get this, Tmon.

I agree.. Its the same concept as the false start penalty with the clock running. The QB isn't even close to LOS but I'm just gonna move slightly to get us another snap. frick up.. the clock stops and gives us time to get our guys ready to tie it up.. Spike or no spike.. it should be a run off.
When is the offense ever allowed to snap the ball with more than 11 on the field? Ever? In any other situation?

Dude, are you retarded? It was prior to the spike because this penalty happens at the time of the snap.

The problem is that UNC essentially got a free time out because of their penalty. The problem is also that they should have been backed up 15 yards and not 5. Also, when the referee declares the game to be over, it's over. He did. Then they changed their mind.

No. The penelty wasn't correct. It should have been a 15 yard penelty for UNC. Not 5. They had 12 men on the field not including the ones running off.
Also on the so called Catch which wasn't a catch at all. The kid never controlled the ball inbounds. After that ruling the clock should have started after the ball was placed. It wasn't. It started on the snap. Which was wrong.
And honestly if you want to get picky about it the offical came on the mic and said the "Game is over" by rule that should have been it. A replay can't be done after the offical calls the game by rule.

Too many men on the field is a 5 yarder.
Illegal substitution is a 5-yarder
Illegal participation is a 15-yarder.
None of the FG team participated in the play, so it is clearly a 5 yard penalty.

Unless he is wrong, and is shown that he is wrong.

He did. Then they changed their mind.
UNC would have been screwed out of an earned win.
The only problem is the ref calling a game over, that wasn't.

Tghe clock was stopped BECAUSE OF THE PERSONAL FOUL.
