I`m not sure if asking for money is even a violation. I heard Dan Patrick say he didn`t think it was, but he wasn`t sure either.

Yes it is a violation. Alabama was penalized for this exact thing when an assistant BB coach jokingly asked 2 boosters for recruiting money. The boosters reported it immediately, the NCAA thanked Bama and then used this as a basis for "repeat offender" status. This happened during the Means investigation.

No money was ever given as the boosters were shocked by the request even though the coach, former UT asst Jones, assured them he was just kidding.

Honestly, the NCAA seems to make it up as they go along.

The FBI is involved due to alleged money laundering and tax evasion, not to "help" the NCAA.
