If they thought the funds could never be traced. The NCAA does not have the power to make someone give them the records to their funds. Cecil Newton gladly handed over his own financial records but didn't see the need to reveal where the funds for his church rebuilding project came from - you know, the ONE set of records that would PROVE if he took money from Auburn or not. But now that the FBI is involved they can easily force Cecil to fork over the records.
The only thing I can think of is maybe they never expected it to get so far that the Feds would become involved.

when did Cam commit? wasn't it around xmas time in 2009? does it take 6 months to deliver $200,000?
God you would suck as a rogue booster.
Commitment does not equal "yours" until the ink is on paper. You dribble some good faith money during the process, a little more at commit and funnel the rest after signing. You don't just throw a duffel of bills in a farm to market ditch after first contact you know...
Tried that. F Adrian Peterson.

I was not aware up until this thread that the money was coming in installments. however, I still don't see why they would wait for the last payment to begin construction

Yah, he must be lying.
As a rival fan, you have insinuated everyone around AU has been lying. But ole MSU is clean as a whistle.
Logical.

Cecil Newton said the family received a letter from the NCAA "about a month ago" asking for financial statements. He said he submitted bank statements and records for the church where he is pastor, Holy Zion Center of Deliverance in Newnan, Ga., along with other records.
Facts and stuff.

So you think a guy is vain enough to ask for 200k and then turn around and spend it on his church. Ya`ll got issues.
Hes probably hiding it in a swiss bank account.

And yet he failed to provide information on where the money came from. He said so himself. I do not have a direct link to a quote but I know I have seen it. He said that there was no need to share that information.

Make up your fricking tard mind.
First, it was he never submitted his financial records for the church.
Now, it's because he didn't release who made donations.
You don't think the NCAA having the financial records in July, with all this money coming in from December to June would raise a couple of flags? You don't think if that all of a sudden he had a huge spike in his bank account, THAT HE PROVIDED, that the NCAA would say something? You don't think the compliance office at Auburn would look into this KNOWING about the investigation in JANUARY.
No, I don't actually think you think at all.

How do you trace all funds at a church???? People put cash in collection plates. An aubie booster could of put 10k in cash and we`d never get caught. Yeah 10k would be obvious, but he could of put in a grand a week.

If there's a way then I am sure the FBI can find it. I am no expert but I'm sure there is a way to track large amounts of money moving between hands.

Wow, some of you guys are impressive. You read what some Joe Blow writes that he "heard" from someone, that heard from someone and figure this whole thing out. You guys are my heros

The same could be said about you. I was defending you assholes all the way up until last night. As of right now, there is enough information out there that makes me think that Cecil Newton pulled a fast one. I only know what I read and I read crap from all over the internet - message board innuendo and legitimate media outlets. I have read the opinion of those from the Auburn camp and I have read stuff from Fox Sports and ESPN. Right now all Auburn columnists appear to be doing is sheltering the flock from the bolts of lightning that are descending from the sky.

I think Auburn needs to change it's mascot:
