Gus' offense didn't look so hot in SEC play.

I agree. Again though, I think our QB play had more to do with that than anything.

Their OL/OC is now on the Arky staff

Well, like my earlier point was proving, he is now in a much tougher situation than he was out there.

Oh yeah, this reminds me:

Petrino is a better QB coach too.

True...but he's not doing it alone at Arky and we will only benefit from an offense he helped developed to go along with the passing scheme of Petrino.

We basically have 3 OC's on our offensive staff...

Coach K - OL - OL/OC at Nevada
Garrick McGhee - OC/QB Coach - OC/QB coach at Northwestern
Petrino

Basically, his entire career as a coach speaks for itself, does it not? What evidence is there that Gus is better?

Who is Childs?

A lowly 3-Star recruit with offers only from Colorado, Ole Miss, MSU, TN, T. Tech, and Tulsa in addition to the Hogs.

I'm not sure how he got to be so good being only a "3-Star" recruit and all. Amazing, don't you think?

· In 2006, Gus Malzahn was hired at Arkansas as the Razorbacks offensive coordinator. The 2005 Razorback offense compiled a pass rating of 107.8. Malzahn was able to improve the Arkansas pass rating to 122.4 in 2006. This was an improvement of 11.9 percent. This was accomplished despite Arkansas playing three different starters at quarterback. It should also be noted the Arkansas offense was never completely in the hands of Gus Malzahn under Houston Nutt.

· In 2007, Gus Malzahn accepted the offensive coordinator position at Tulsa. He inherited a senior quarterback, who was a 2-year starter before Malzahn arrived at Tulsa. Paul Smith had a pass rating of 141.0 during the 2006 season but he improved to 159.8 under Gus Malzahn in 2007. This was an improvement of 11.8 percent.

· In 2008, Tulsa had to replace Paul Smith with senior quarterback, David Johnson. Prior to starting in 2008, Johnson had attempted a grand total of 63 passes. Johnson started the entire 2008 season under the direction of Gus Malzahn, compiling a rating of 178.7, finishing the season as the No. 2 rated quarterback in the country. Paul Smith finished the season before as the No. 4 rated passer in the nation but Johnson was able to improve his pass rating by 10.6 percent over Smith, despite being a first-year starter.

· Gus Malzahn was hired away from Tulsa to take the offensive coordinator position at Auburn in 2009. Malzahn made the decision to start Chris Todd after a competitive race to decide the starting quarterback. During the first 4 games of the 2008 season, Todd compiled a rating of 114.3 before succumbing to a shoulder injury. Under Gus Malzahn, Todd finished the 2009 season with a rating of 145.7, the 3rd most productive season in school history. He was also ranked as the No. 18 quarterback in the nation. This was an improvement of 21.5 percent for Chris Todd.

Not saying that makes him better but still... anything for Petrino? What makes you say that?

It appears we are meauring our dicks here...unfortuntaly for you TD.com has a maximum post length and I can't fit all of Petrino's accomplishments in

Malzahn's accomplishments reminds me of the Joe Cox pic...short and not able to do much damage

You're going to need to trade that ruler in for a yard stick .

Pictures can't normally do damage .... so close to a good burn, yet so far away.

You and I both know that Malzahn's offense is designed around short, quick routes. That' fine and that's what is required to make his offense work, but Petrino's QB's have to know everything about being a QB. They have to be comfy from under center. They have to be execute play action. They have to work shotgun. Gus does one thing (shotgun) and he does it well. Will it work in college? Yeah. I think it's been proven that his QB's can put up numbers. But do his QB's actually improve as passers? Are they prepared to work in a pro-style offense? No. They aren't. It's kind of the Tim Tebow situation all over again.

In short, Petrino QB numbers compared to Gus' will never be apples to apples. Petrino's offense requires downfield passing. With that said, QB's every place he's ever been except for maybe Atlanta have broken records.

So his offense demands more of QB's than Gus. Still doesn't prove how he's a better QB coach.
