But things are obviously different now. I'm not saying it's the ONLY reason they've looked like total crap against Florida, but it's one variable that can be removed.
Bottom line, Florida isn't reverting back to the 70s anytime soon, and JAX ain't getting any closer to Athens or any further from Gainsville.

Personally i would love UGA coming to the swamp and getting to visit Athens. I might be in the minority, but jville doesnt have the same feel that a game @the swamp or in athens would.

I don't think it has anything to do with the game being in Jacksonville. The Ole Ball Coach put it in UGA's head back in the 90s that they can't beat UF except once every 5 or 6 years. Its a mental thing for UGA not a location problem.

Your right and neither is UGA. UGA had some pretty good teams under Dooley, and that Erk guided D was awsome, Glad Ga Southern was able to get Erk away from UGA,. That game has been played in Jacksonville since the 30s. The location of Jacksonville argument is a weak one IMO. Besides UGA still leads the series.

To the "who ya gonna get that's better than Richt" bunch, I say, call Muschamp home to the mothership!

My take on UGA is that they are good. Good coaches with Great Recruits tends to be like that.
Oh, and we have only beat you once since joining the SEC. Hopefully this year is #2

It's more about getting to play at home... UGA's record over the last 20 years would be a lot better. If you want to win the East, you gotta beat UF.
Playing an equal or better opponent while consistently having to travel further is a recepy for a losing record. It's got nothing to do with what Spurrier did 15 some odd years ago.

This is where it gets tricky. It is easy to throw stones at Richt, but if you sat down and derived a list of who's unequivocally better, it is relatively short, and those coaches are at places that would pony up just as much as UGA. Saban isnt leaving Bama's storied tradition for similar money. Meyer, Mack Brown, etc would stay put as well.
If we removed Richt, we would be looking for lightning in a bottle again. More often than not you wish you had what you lost.
Thanks to everybody for the well thought out replies.
Who ya gonna get to replace him? That’s the AD’s job. I will aim that question back at you though and ask who was LSU gonna get when Saban left? Who was Florida gonna get when they fired Zook? Who was Bama gonna get when Shula got fired? There is always a risk to replacing a HC. By the way, all of these HC's have been hired after Richt AND won MNC's. If it doesn’t work out you do it again.
To the crowd that clamors about the wins Richt has piled up at UGA, I say he did a heck of a job in his first 5 years when Brian Van Gorder was running the Defense and Richt was calling the plays. In the last 4 years he has done a HORRIBLE job of promoting cronies to Coordinator positions and losing 3 outta 4 to UF and UT and going 2-2 against UK!!!
Maybe Richt can turn things around by hiring Todd Grantham. Personally, I think he has dug himself too deep of a hole to climb out of. There are lots of disgruntled Fans and Boosters like me. Most of them are not vocal so you tend to only here from the Disney Dawgs. Our AD, Damon Evans knows his own job is on the line if he sticks with Richt too long and Dr Adams, our Prez, is a cold blooded Admin that will pull the plug himself when he sees donations starting to circle the drain.
Richt HAS to start beating UF or he is gone. That means he is gone. I give Richt 2-3 years top.

I was very happy with Richt/VanGorder. When VanGorder left the defense started on a steady decline. Richt is not a defensive coach so he has to keep someone on staff that can keep the defense at a high level. Hopefully Grantham is the right guy. If he's not then Richt won't last much longer.

Urban Meyer won't last much longer either, for different reasons

Richt may have some health problems too, I've always thought he looks like he has jaundice

IMO Georgia is an underachieving team, that doesn't have the right man leading them. Richt is good for a New Years Day bowl, but that's about it. Georgia gets enough talent to win NC, but the coaching has been the problem. It starts at the top if you ask me.

Jaundice? I always thought he was just over doing it with the spray on tan.

How can you someone determine the success of a coach by how many NC's his team has?
When luck plays such a huge role in a NC.
Hell...Les Miles has a NC...But, I would not trade Les for Richt any day.
Only coach in the SEC that I would trade richt for is Saban. Saban has that killer intect. Urban Meyer is a great coach...but...he is classless.

Can I please see the W-L record against final ranked SEC and top 25 teams for the other schools? Numbers in a vacuum are meaningless.
Everyone bashing Bobo should perhaps look at the numbers that show UGA had one of the most efficient offenses in the SEC, even with a QB that never saw an opposing player he couldn't throw the ball to.
Was the defense broken? Hell yes. But Richt took the steps to fix it. Were those the right steps? We will find out, but I think the three additions were great hires just on spec.
The only year I was supremely disappointed in a Richt-coached team was 2004. UGA had the players to take it pretty far, and the loss to UT was bad, even if explainable based on the fact that it was the week after an emotionally charged and draining game against LSU.
I love how everyone is comparing Richt to Saban where they are at now, and yet no one mentions that it took Saban til his 4th HC job to manage 10 win seasons back to back. Can Richt improve? Most definitely, and he will be the first person to tell you that.
And yes, luck has a lot to do with getting a chance to play for a MNC. It took a far less talented UCLA somehow beating USC to give UF its first shot under Meyer. One of UGA's better teams in 2008 was absolutely decimated with injuries. shite just happens.
Does Richt's public personality make people think he is not intense? Yes, but no one who has been on the practice field with him thinks that.
Speaking of S & C, most think something is coming down the pike sometime this summer when CVH's contract is up.
HBTD, enjoy your opinions and feel free to chase rainbows. Maybe you will get lucky, and UGA will hire the second coming of Lane Kiffin.
I personally think that Richt is the man I want running the show in Athens. The screw will turn, and what is up will be down and vice versa. It is college football afterall. Given the choice, I would rather have decades of top 10 finishes than one MNC. Mainly because I have enjoyed this past decade going to games in Athens and beyond.
Oh, and to all who think UGA isn't a force to be reckoned with in its home state, you are going to be more than a bit disappointed this year.
HBTD, so glad you finally realized there was a world outside the Dawgvent. However, even if you were banned, just from your initial posture, I think that is your home 'hood. Just do me one favor: should UGA win a MNC under Richt, please keep complaining just as vocally about what a crappy HC he is.

If that were to happen, I would just have to admit that I was wrong and eat the crow. However, I have only been wrong once and that was when I thought I was wrong.
Richt is milking the program right now. When he posts a 6-6 record this year he will point to a freshman QB and installing a new 3-4 defense. When it happens again next year he will throw Bobo under the bus. The year after it will be because we are installing a new offense and recruiting is down because we have lost a little luster. After that, he will be fired, but will have milked 3 or 4 years at $3 million a year out of us and left the program in shambles.
I don't even have to have a MNC to be happy. Just win the Division again and get to Atlanta. Unfortunately, ain't happening with St Richt at the helm.

Have you met Urban in person? Been around his family? Well, I'm going to guess no. If that's the case, you have no basis for your bs remarks.
Like I said, UGA gets ELITE talent every year, but finds a way to blow it. Believe it or not, letting your team lose focus is the COACHES fault. UGA should have at least 1 National Championship under Richt with all the players he has. Richt gets them on campus, but cannot coach them up like Urban.

Richt and UGA have the talent to take UGA all the way the problem has been position coaching ability. The talent UGA pulls in it should have the best defense in the SEC and it really shouldn't be close. Also if you go back in the early years of Richt where UGA was tearing it up it was due to the defense being so dominant. Lately that coaching ability has gone away. The offensive scheme is good overall the the abilities of the individual positions is not at full potential.
Richt is a good coach and very consistent. I think UGA would like some better hardware while under him but it is simply difficult to do so.
UGA plays; Auburn, Florida, and UT every year not counting rotating between the other teams in the SEC. Richt has a good record against these teams but the big problem is that every top team in the SEC thinks it should win the SECCG every year and that simply won't happen. When you have AU, LSU, Bama, UGA, UF, UT that go to play in and win the SECCG in a decade realistically more than 2 appearances is asking a lot and more than 2 wins per decade is damn tough.
