Didn't Florida get the living hell beat out of them in a title game in the 90's

When FSU beat UF in a Sugar Bowl?
I'm unsure but that's the only recent game that comes to mind.

Good question. I know LSU has never lost a championship game in the 3 major sports.

Tennessee lost to Nebraska in 1997 (football)

A SEC hasn't lost a BCS championship game so it must be Florida vs Nebraska?
hard thing is there wasn't really a "game" that was titled the NCG before 98

January 2, 1998 - Orange Bowl, (National Championship): Nebraska (Big 12 champion, Bowl Alliance #2) 42, Tennessee (SEC champion, Bowl Alliance #3) 17
"The Bowl Alliance" National Championship game- geesh, I don't remember UT getting thumped like that, Mannings senior year?

UT was ranked # 3 but I doubt they would have been crowned champions even if they had beaten Nebraska...this is the year the title was split between #1 Michigan and #2 Nebraska...So I don't know if this could be considered and SEC loss as far as championships go...

There were plenty of games called the "National Championship Game" but these are the only matchups of 1 vs 2
1 vs 2 is really what I meant
Nov. 30, 1996 No. 2 Florida State def. No. 1 Florida 24-21 would be the last then

Texas Western over Kentucky - 1966 NCAA finals

This is where it gets tricky, though. On January 1, 1997, #3 Florida and #1 Florida State met again in the Sugar Bowl. This time Florida won the game 52-20 and was crowned national champions.
The last time an SEC team lost the national championship game was January 1, 1996 when #1 Nebraska DESTROYED #2 Florida 62-24.
