Y'all do know that's an old military term, right? Goes back to the days of black powder rifles with wadding; load your rifle and "shoot your wad" means you don't have a chance to reload again before the enemy hits you.

I know the connotation for today, but still it isn't unknown for an older person to say it using the old meaning.
