How does nil work in this situation does he double dip cash? Or is it different in every situation? I remember there was a big stink from big ten and Wisconsin earlier this year when Miami took one of thier defensive backs. Thought part of the stink was the db was already paid to sign with Wisconsin and then Miami paid him again.

TN is not going to have to pay him anything more. If you could double dip, guys would be transferring three or four times a year.

I think it could be different in every situation. I don't think many of them are "contracts" per say. Meaning that in a lot of cases the kid can take the lump sum money and run without consequences.

That sounds accurate although I’m not very versed in this nil stuff

The portal window closing and the fact that the kid would never actually get to play prevents this from happening.

TN wasn't paying him at all. TN wasn't/isn't a party to his NIL contracts.

Neither school paid him anything. That's not how NIL works. Athletes aren't getting paid by the school to play. They are getting paid by advertisers for the use of their name/image/likeness.

Last I saw NIL contracts can't start before the player is on campus(maybe signed) and they all by default have to end when the player leaves school.
Any legitimate NIL contracts that aren't just pay to play being called NIL would have to be resigned.
If that's what actually happens I don't know. But that was at one point supposed to be the way.

I’m not in Nico overkill. I wish there was an ongoing thread with updates for every college that passes on him.

Sigh
No, NIL is not payments made from the school. However, to insinuate that the school is not involved with the process is disingenuous.

I recall something with Rashada getting paid to sign with UF but then UF couldn't come up with the cash so he transferred to UGA and sued UF for the money they were supposed to pay him. Does anyone know how that shook out? Or still in litigation?

The collectives pay these guys. The "actual name, image, likeness money" via advertising are now side gigs.
I'm sure the collectives have some sort of clause in there about guys transferring and how much of the money is guaranteed.

If this is accurate and still true, he remains taking the idiots on-line courses, attends whatever interview or kids hospital visit required, and finishes his 9 hour spring semester. Pay that man his money.
I'd be willing to bet that all NIL requirements occur during football season and nothing or very little after spring practice. I bet he's still in school, but not in Tennessee.

They are actually mostly getting paid for by big boosters now as very few have a real big NIL value in reality. I think the Congress Bill will allow college teams to use up to 20.5 million of revenues to pay players though.

You let enough of these fat cats get burned by some shyster handlers of these kids and they'll start leaning on their local congressman to get this shite fixed.

Missouri has one of the more liberal NIL laws. A player is eligible to start getting paid as soon as he signs an “agreement” with the University. An agreement has been interpreted to mean something as non-binding as a financial aid agreement. Accordingly kids COULD start getting paid in high school under the Missouri NIL law.

True. The use of collectives brought at least SOME order to this madness.
In its original iteration, the school was supposed to be completely hands off in this process (nod, nod, wink, wink). Seeing the futility of trying to enforce this separation, the school is now permitted to COORDINATE with the collective by encouraging donors to contribute to the collective and, no doubt, advising on who they want and how much of the collectives money should be dedicated to that athlete.
Lump sum payments would be extremely foolish and I doubt many exist. In at least one collective I’m told, the stream of payments ends the minute the athlete hits the portal.
