"I told the people at LSU I'm not writing you guys a check if guys aren't going to commit to us for 2-3 years," O'Neal said on a recent episode of The Big Podcast With Shaq.
"NIL, I think, is definitely gonna hurt people," he said on the podcast. "For people that have nothing, when you get something, it takes the pressure off. But that something should be the final prize. The final prize should be the NBA.”
"Guys are bouncing around just for the bag," he lamented, suggesting that this new culture of opportunistic transfers is making it harder for high school athletes to break into the college ranks.
"I feel sorry for them."

we aren't all Shaq, Shaq. 90% of these players' highest prospects is role-player in Greece. of course they're going to optimize for max earnings now.

what are these dudes going to do with a degree? everyone has a degree. in the 20th century, a degree had value. that's not the case anymore.

Many become coaches.

i'm sure they do. but if they hadn't played the NIL game, they'd be making $80k at State Farm while renting an apartment, instead of a house paid off with boosters money

Yeah, I am certain they are investing wisely and squirreling away most of their money.
Many of these guys, just like lottery winners, will end up worse off than they were before when it is all said and done.
And MANY players are giving up a professional career by transferring every season for a slightly larger NIL deal.
It may surprise you to learn Brand that 18-22 year old males don’t have the best financial habits nor are they the best at financially planning for the future.

it's funny you say this, because Shaq is a genetic lottery winner who is lecturing to others that they should play the lottery instead of just putting their money into the S&P 500.

Really? Who? What's the data on that? You're saying NBA scouts are missing on players in college who maximize their earnings by transferring? I don't believe that for a second. the NBA is probably the top 0.1% of talent in the world. if you are good enough to play in the NBA, it's not going to matter that you transferred for a bag your senior season. they will find you.

Shaq is one of the most likeable sports ambassadors/media personalities.

Why don’t you provide your data on the .1% of players comment? Because there is data on that. Or are you just too lazy?

Maybe to Texas.

Damn. That’s great. I see his degrees from Barry and University of Pheonix are paying off.

You guys who think players who transfer are some how “marked” negatively by the pros are hilarious. The #1 QB in the draft this year was a transfer. Travis Hunter who is a generational player was a transfer. Ewers and Sanders were transfers and will be high picks. No one cares about transfers except butt hurt fans of the schools they left. I don’t see fans booing players in their jerseys who transferred in.
And Shaq has every right to have his personal belief on what he spends his money on and that’s fine. But if LSU gets to the Final Four next year with all 1 year transfers he’ll be smiling ear to ear in TV.

This CRAP didn't just happen it was pre planned. Just like they JUDGE SHOP vs. Trump, those lawsuites were JUDGE SHOPPED so they knew the outcomes of all the cases. The NCAA ought to do something right? WRONG, they were in on it, remember the North Car. Bathroom Bill? They were not going to let N.C. teams host NCAA games until they allowed trans people into any bathroom they wanted, they are left wing nuts.
This was all planned out, good leadership at the NCAA could have made all this go away by saying: OK, we will just drop all scholarships going forward, all athletes have to pay their own way.
In 5 minutes these lawyers would have been forced to drop these lawsuits by parents of athletes backlash.
I quit watching college sports in 2020 when they all joined in on the summer of BLM and ANTIFA and its a good thing, anyone who continues to watch this abortion happen is just kidding themselves. Its ALL ABOUT MONEY, not education, and colleges should be about education first.
