It's kind of mind numbing that Ed Oregon got another head coaching job after being the worst coach in Ole Miss history.

But he did end up winning a national title at LSU, while Kelly doesn't seem likely to do.

So you would agree that Orgeron is superior to Napier, correct? If you thing that Orgeron is a better football coach than Kelly, then you are out to lunch.

I think he is what he generally has always been, a solid coach. He'll win between 9 and 11 games, sometimes make a more substantial run, but almost certainly will never win it all. But to answer your question, yes, I think he's a significant upgrade over Orgeron, despite the National Championship.

Yeah, Kelly is a steady coach who’s lacking next level success. O is the very definition of a blind hog finding an acorn. Heck, Chizik won a natty at auburn and he sucked….

It sounds like Orgeron is better than all but very few college coaches judging by the criteria? If so interesting analysis

last two years of Ed Orgeron: .478 record (zero bowl wins)
2020: 5-5
2021: 6-7

last two seasons with Brian Kelly .769 record (two bowl wins)
2023: 10-3
2024: 10-3

Now, if you want to throw in those third years:
2019: SEC West Division Title, SEC Championship, National Championship, 15-0
2022: SEC West Division Title, bowl win, 10-4.

Coach O: .684 record with one division title, one conference title, one Heisman trophy, one Natty (all from the same season), plus one losing season.

Brian Kelly: .750 record with one division title, 3 bowl wins, zero winning seasons.

Kelly has been incredibly consistent. Kelly's teams have basically all been carbon copies of one-another, going 9-3 in the regular season by losing the opener, pulling one upset, and losing to one team they have no business losing to on the road, missing out on the playoff, and then finishing with a bowl game victory.

Coach O's teams before that Natty had very similar records to Kelly's teams, being consistently good, but not great. The major difference being that the 2017 team lost their bowl game to Kelly's Notre Dame squad. However, as soon as Coach O lost his assistant coaches, especially Dave Aranda, his teams were putrid following the miracle 2019 run. Higher highs and lower lows.

Orgeron inherited a great assistant coaching staff and roster from Les Miles. The addition of Co OC Brady in 2019 set up the greatest college football team of all time.

After the 2019 season, O lost numerous key assistants, including OC & DC. O’s downfall was not only because he started chasing arse, but another big reason was he hired really bad replacement asst coaches.

Kelly, on the other hand, inherited a really bad roster from O, and did a poor job of retaining the key assistants he should have, and hiring new assistants. However, Kelly has learned from his mistake and currently has one of the best assist coaching staffs at LSU since Saban was here. LSU did not invest much $$ in the transfer portal in prior years, but massively increased their spending this off-season and brought in very high quality transfer players. LSU has also had back to back outstanding recruiting classes, so for the first time in Kelly’s tenure here, he has a full roster with very few holes. The 2026 season will speak volumes for how good or bad Kelly truly is for LSU. For the first time, he’s set up to win big.

You should worry about

Muschamp
McElwain
Mullen
Napier (.500 lol)

Zero SEC titles
0-3 in SECCG
Zero Playoffs
Zero National Championships

Compared to
Nick Saban
Les Miles
Ed Orgeron
Bryan Kelly

3-4 in NCGs
5-2 in SECCGs

Coach O was their coolest coach. They hated that about him.

How the heck was Orgeron at LSU able to beat Kirby at Georgia easy and BK at LSU wasn't able to beat Kirby at Georgia?

At the Little Rock Touchdown Club, Ed Orgeron recounted his departure from LSU, humorously stating that when told of the $17.1 million buyout, he asked, "What time do you want me to leave and what door do you want me out of, brother?".

Coach O won because he just hired people to do it and he lucked up and hired a few good coordinators.

He was always a good recruiter.

Thankfully being nice appears to be the deciding factor when hiring Arkansas football coaches.
