Starting think that ol Gunner was worth the wait

I'm hearing all sorts of rumors that he is looking good, REAL good. Lest we forget, he broke all of Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson's hs records here in Georgia, so he has NEVER just been chopped liver despite what some have claimed.
And before anyone fires back that "If he was so good, why didn't he beat out Beck?" Let me just say, I'm no expert like some of you, but I think there's alot to be said for having the benefit of taking all of those first string reps during practice for an entire offseason.
I think he's gonna do just fine, and I'm getting pretty pumped about this season.

Last season all insiders said the OL was the best position group on the team…we saw how that went. take it with a grain of salt. But I do hope he is balling. Biggest question is how well can he read an elite D and how consistent is he with the deep ball.

Until the Dawgs can run the ball much better (OL), and defend the run better, it's not going to matter a whole lot.

I'm a lot less worried about WR this year than last year. We seemed to have dropped some dead weight and added some upgrades, in addition to Colbie potentially being back.
OL is the biggest question for me since the run and pass game are both dependent on quality OL play, which we didn't have last year.

Gunner had some good throws in the SECCG and playoff game, but he just looked a step slow. He was a great runner in HS but guess you have to consider it was AA football. Still we only had one full game to really watch him.

If he does not play great, I don’t think it will be because of a lack of care or trying! Heard he’s been working with the receivers outside of practice to get on the same page and, being that leader that may have been missed last year! I think we’re gonna see the reemergence of the back shoulder throw!

I think his mental endurance will be better. His focus seemed to decline about midway through the second quarter and also midway through the fourth quarter of the Notre Dame game. He hadn't started. game in years. Playing quarterback for 4 quarters makes your brain hurt.

It'd be interesting if someone counted and quantified the injuries on the O line last year compared to other years. I don't know if we had more injuries last year than other years. The O line might have just been poorly coached and complacent.

Tate Ratledge was the linchpin of the interior and was hurt most of the season, even when he was in the game, he was playing through a great deal of pain and limitation. But the coaches thought a hurt Ratledge was still better than who the backup was, which isn't good. So in part, yeah injuries matter, but we apparently don't have competent depth there.

The lack of depth reminded me of a Mark Richt oline. Freeling tore his labrum in the Texas game and was still the best option for the rest of the season.

Agree, should cut down on drops this season as well. Playing games with QB reps hurts the catch reflex of your pass catchers

Gunner's arm talent to me isn't in question but I am concerned about his throwing motion. His release looks long.

Likely to get lit up for a few sacks + fumbles with that wind up.
It is what it is...he is Bobo's boy and these coaches stick with "their players" to a fault most times.
So, Gunner will start but Pugs will get some good in game looks when the game is in hand.

I continue to agree, and I’m also concerned about his ability to stay in the pocket and make his check downs before he gets squirrelly and wants to run. Hoping the elevated talent level and offensive game planning (Looking squarely at you, Bobo.) can overcome some of that.

The one word that comes to mind for me when I watch Gunner is slow. Slow in everything that matters. Gunner is a very accurate passer when he has time to get the ball off. I also worry that Gunner seems to think he can run through linebackers. I could be wrong and I certainly hope so.
