Texas A&M completed the rare athletic department grand slam on Tuesday when the last of its highest profile employees left the premises in less than two years, the final three from their own ambition.
Firing Jimbo is one thing, but to lose Schloss’ and Buzz in less than a year to other power four schools is an indictment on the state of your athletic department, and its athletic director; in this case, Trev Alberts. These departures suggest there are alignment issues within the A&M athletic department, the administration, alums and fans.
quote:
In March of 2024, A&M hired Alberts away from his alma mater, Nebraska, to at least correct the considerable financial state created by the Jimbo contract, a buyout of $77.5 million. As much as school officials insisted there would be no major changes necessary to fund that buyout, there were some budget modifications that left some people marooned-face and/or unemployed. That’s not a coincidence.
During his introductory press conference last summer at Texas, Schlossnagle specifically said one of the reasons that he took the UT job was his relationship with its athletic director, Chris Del Conte. That’s not a shot at Alberts, but it’s a direct hit.
If the coach is winning, and in demand, a big part of the AD’s job description is to keep that person around.
quote:
For some, like former Texas A&M football coach R.C. Slocum, they love all things Aggie like family. For others, they learn they’re just the weird uncle at Thanksgiving dinner who doesn’t “get it.”
Texas A&M has its own traditions, beats and rhythms and, while it is beloved by those who attended the school, it is also not for everyone.
The exits of the four highest profile members of the athletic department staff in less than two years says something is off within that department. The morale at the moment in Aggieland is not great.

Along with all the Draggieland queens walking around trying to read stories to your children.
It is gross!

Ah, the final stage of the cycle.. you would 100% be saying the exact same shite about Schloss if he didn’t go to your rival

This dude does nothing but leave a wake of disaster everywhere he has been. I can't wait for the Ohio State version.

So it’s not just tigerdroppings that asks why aggy cannot produce championships.
It would help aggy if they had not bragged about money while all these “poors” won nattys.

No, we would have moved heaven and earth to keep Schloss if he wanted to stay. There’s no sugar coating that loss, it was and is brutal
Basketball has never been a priority for the admin and I doubt it ever will be. We are not a destination basketball program, and I doubt we tried very hard to keep Buzz based on what he’s accomplished

I like how they're using losing Buzz fricking Williams of all people as some indictment on the current state of affairs at A&M.
Buzz doesn't stay anywhere long. He will not let things turn against him and allow himself to he fired. He has impeccable timing with getting out before the heat gets turned up. It is interesting to note that none of the athletic directors/money people at any of his past stops really put up much of a fight to keep him. Most were indifferent when he cut bait, and I'd imagine Aggy was, too.
Buzz saw the writing on the wall for his next season in the SEC. He saw an opening to leave and took it. He took a job at a program that just saw its coach repeatedly shite on it in public, and he has no idea who his boss will be when he gets there.

I wasn't a fan of Alberts as a hire and I remain in my belief he is a bad fit for AD.

The AD is a bad fit but it may be time to look at the overall culture in CS. Traditions aren't traditions if you aren't winning. They're simply things that make you WEIRD.
