This is what happens when you don’t have perimeter defenders against bama.

This would never happen against an elite defensive team at the guard level. ( Houston, AU, Tennessee, St. John’s)

Beat Houston earlier in the year. 11 threes made in that game.

Bama shot poorly vs Auburn and they had some decent looks..dont think.they'll shoot that poorly when you see them again.

I've seen this said since the game was played, and it really illustrates what can be one of bama's issues with this team. They really didn't get many good looks at all in that game. I've been rewatching the game since I read this comment and paying closer attention than I did in the past. I'm at the ten minute mark of the first half, and bama has yet to get a clean look or a rythm three. The defense Auburn played in that game was phenomenal. Even by that point Auburn's defense had them passing up some opportunities and being more hesitant. They just didn't have any space.

On the flipside, in the same timeframe, Auburn had 7 or 8 clean looks and rythym threes. Bama didn't close out on shooters well at all.

That said, Auburn can be prone to lazy defense. It first showed up against Iowa State, but they got away with it and got the win. The same thing happened against Florida, and they paid for it. It showed up again against Arkansas, but they got it together enough to get the W.

Bama moved the ball around better in this game then they have been., they tend to dribble in one spot too much.theyve made aa lineup change with Philon starting and the primary ballhandler. Last year they got hot using Estrada in that role and they dont ask Mark Sears to run the point...and look whats happened offensively.

Youngblood is raining threes Aden Holloway has really been solid from three, plus last night Jarin Stevenson drilled three straight. They may be coming together finally

This is how we kept our turnovers in check this game. Those have been our Achilles' Heel; if this is a trend on how we'll play leading into the post season I like our odds to go pretty deep in the tournament.

They shot 45 threes. 45. Out of 71 total shots, 45 were threes.

111 points is great, and if I were a Bama fan, I'm probably liking it. The record is tough to complain about.

But it's not a great product to watch, IMO. It's what so many have complained about the NBA becoming.

State is a disaster at defending the 3 but they make up for it by shooting the 3 poorly.

If you are a mediocre shooting team State can beat you. If you have the ability to drain 3’s all day, State can’t hang.

Dive into the two bama/state games and you find some interesting stats. Bama shot practically the same percentage from three in both games (48.4% and 48.8%). MSU just allowed them to shoot a lot more in the second game (14 more). State didn't defend the three any better in the first game, which was won by bama 88-84.

To be elite bama has to play with pace and create more possessions. IMO, that doesn't necessarily mean that opponents have to slow the pace of the game against bama, they just have to play efficient offense and be able to defend the perimeter. The AU/Bama game boiled down to that. The pace and style was closer to what bama wanted than what AU would have ideally preferred, but AU was efficient and defended well. There just aren't many teams that can put that combination on the floor, and even fewer who can do it for 40 minutes.
