He needs to start winning this year is what it comes down to. Anything less than 8 wins his seat will get rocket hot.

Gotta win group (3-0)
Ball State
USA
Kentucky

Need to at least go at least .500 group (3-3)
@ Baylor
@ Oklahoma
@ Texas A&M
Missouri
@ Arkansas
@ Vanderbilt

Splitting at home would overcome failure in the prior 2 groups (0-2)
Georgia
Alabama

Feels like a schedule where 7-5 should be the absolute floor, 8-4 should be the median expectation and 9-3 should not be out of the realm of possibility.

Beat the teams were supposed to..
*Baylor, all 3 OOC cupcakes, Vandy, Arky, Kentucky, Missouri (8)

Compete in all 4 remaining games and win at least one…
*Bama, Georgia, @ A&M, @ OU

Winning 9 games and competing in all three losses (10 point loss or less) would be a major step in the right direction. It would put us in Playoff contention in November.

8-4 would probably keep Freeze off the hot seat but fans would be grumbling.

7-5 would probably put him squarely on the hot seat and it would be up to the boosters on how to handle

6-6 or worse would likely get him fired, IMO.

I think it's more of a question can Jackson Arnold come in and do what Freeze hopes he can do. If so, 8-4+ very reasonable and it's a success. If not, then you're looking at 6-6 or worse and Freeze will have a hard case to sell to justify staying for year 4.

The schedule is not very daunting - both UGA and Bama (neither as strong as previous years) are at home. The OOC is a joke and the rest is manageable, no Texas or Florida or Tennessee. 8-4 should be the baseline, anything worse then they are fine being mediocre if they don't get rid of Freeze.

8 wins is the minimum year 3
10 wins in year 4.

He's been given an eternity after going under .500 in his first two years.

This. If Jackson Arnold doesn’t take a major step forward this year it could be the end of the Freeze experiment at Auburn.

If Jackson Arnold does not show major improvement over last year, Auburn is at best 8-4. And 7-5 is more likely. If he goes 7-5 Freeze will get another year. 6-6 will be a coin flip. If he finishes with a losing record he might be physically carried out of Lee County by disgruntled fans.

@ Baylor week 1 is nothing too daunting but I wouldn’t say it’s a joke either.

Playing a true road game in Week 1 against a Power 4 opponent that went to a bowl game is nothing to sneeze at.

He'll be looking for a contract extension at the end of the year, so he has to win 8 minimum.

We had three games this past year that we would have won if it weren’t for comically boneheaded decisions/performances from our QB.

I expect a 8 win season at the least. We should remedy the Thorne problem, continue to develop the veterans who now have two years in the system, and plug in young, athletic talent to fill out the depth chart.

And 2026 should be a championship caliber team.

I don’t see why that isn’t a realistic possibility in today’s football, with our NIL fund, and our current and ongoing recruiting classes. If we can’t capitalize on what we’ve got now, it is 100% a Hugh Freeze coaching and management problem.

TBH, reasonable AU fans are looking for reasons to keep Hugh off the hot seat, and I say that as someone who is somewhat disappointed in Hugh and was never his biggest advocate.

With NIL pressures and trying to get football to an elite level while feeding our currently elite bball program - we just can't afford to lose momentum (and money) on a change if it can be avoided without digging the hole deeper.

That said, I think it's got to be 7 wins to keep that "just give us a reason to hope" Hugh vibe going. And honestly, with our football donors who knows.

I want to see him pivot faster. He was against transfer QBs because he didn't want to hurt Thorne, Holden, and White despite seeing none of them were average.

They were a top 15 team when we scheduled them.

Thorne looked like a little better QB in 2024 than Arnold. Why the confidence Arnold will be so much better in 2025?

Thorne
199/317. 62.8%. 2,713 yards. 21 TD. 9 INT. 150.8 RTG. QBR 64.4 (51st). 283 yds rushing. 2.5 yds/rush

Arnold
154/246. 62.6%. 1,421 yards. 9 TD. 3 INT. 124.8 RTG. QBR 47.8 (91st) 444 yds rushing. 3.0 yds/rush

Freeze copied Gus’ offense and had a few good years but in reality he’s not that good of a coach. And Jackson Arnold is not a savior.

The sudden Jackson Arnold love is what I am trying to understand. He looked like trash last year. People point to the OU/Alabama game. But Jalen Milroe scored as many points for Oklahoma as did Jackson Arnold.

He was not a top ten QB in the SEC, and was a borderline top 100 QB nationwide. He got benched for a freshman at one point, just like Payton Thorne.

Why is Jackson Arnold not going to simply be Payton Tnorne 2.0?

You can’t quantify some of Thorne’s bad moments. They literally lost football games.

Also, Thorne had healthy talent around him. Possibly the best RB in the SEC and extremely talented receivers. OL was rough though.

Didn’t Oklahoma have every one of their receivers go down with injuries?
