Interesting set up. I feel like you'd keep Vandy in the SEC to keep it at the original 10. South Carolina goes to ACC and bump Virginia to Independent.

I feel like you put Wake as Independent instead of Virginia.

Gotta put OU back in the Big 8. Those games with Nebraska were epic.

I agree with that. Good point honestly

Pretty solid.. would be much better times. This and no NIL/transfer portal madness.

Too much garbage in his SWC
SMU, Rice, Houston... no way

Better to bump Rice out of the SWC which is stupid he put them in at their present state. And he pretty much admits that throughout his entire segment. Put Ok State in and put BYU in the Big 8 since he also put Utah there. Kind of surprised he messed that one up from the start.

For being an entertainment guy, Josh really doesn’t seem to know much about TV markets putting this together

SWC and Big 8 are very weak. Those are G5 conferences
Would have to beef them up

Vandy couldn't make it as an independent. I also believe no team should be independent...get in a conference like everyone else.

I disagree, I think the top 50 programs should be independent only schedule each other and collective bargain the tv deal(nfl network model). That way everyone can go back to normal regional conferences for bball and non rev sports. Football, is the outlier in the college sports world. You could argue men’s bball but it’s not the same situation as football, you can go to the nba straight outa hs, you can go over seas where as cfb is 100 percent the minor leagues.

To me the big east looks the weakest by a wide margin

You remove the SWC from this graphic and put Texas, TAMU, OU and Arkansas in the Big 8. Then you remove Utah from the Big 8 as well.

Agreed.

I support this
I think the only way we go back to something like this is by going forward. You end up with a couple mega-conferences that divide themselves into divisions that look something like the above

No conference championship games, everyone plays everyone in the regular season with 9 conference games (add 2 more teams to the Big 8).
Playoff is 7 conference champs, best champ from the "G5/mid majors" and 5-8 at larges for a 12-16 team playoff.

I agree and they is why you put Penn state in the big east and move be Rutgers to big ten.
Penn Stste is a regional game for the big east historically. A big east with:
Miami
VT
PSU
Pitt
WVU
And possibly Notre dame is great.

This is 72 teams. I would do more culling (bottom 12 got to go) and have 6 conferences with 10 teams each. SEC, ACC, Big 10, SWC, PAC 10 and some form of the Big 8 plus 2.
All conferences play 9 conf games (all teams every year) and are required to play at least one other Big 6 opponent. Maybe do like the NFL where two conferences are matched up and you play the team who finished in the same spot as you last year so there is no arguing.
Each conference picks their method of crowning a champion. Six conference champs make the playoff. Top 2 seeds get a bye (no committee, use the AP poll).
ETA: with every team playing all 9 conference opponents every year, it should eliminate the need for a conference title game. There would either need to be title games in every conference or none at all. It needs to be uniform.
