Random Question: LSU- Why do you not claim the 1946 SEC Basketball Title?

Your athletic website does not show the 1945-46 team as a Championship team despite them going 8-0 in conference play.
Meanwhile Kentucky went 6-0 and claims the regular season title outright.
Shouldn’t it be reversed?

Just wanted to point out, the players on this team were in elementary school when A&M won their only national title.

Another interesting tidbit…
In 1934-35, Kentucky went 11-0 in SEC play. LSU went 12-0. Both do claim this title, but shouldn’t the rule be that LSU would have it outright due to one extra win?

LSU has a 1908 recognized NCAA football title that it does not recognize at all.

Claiming titles retrocatively is lame. Claim it when it happens or let it go

Yeah but they actually won this one. That’s a big difference.
Any as far as claiming it retroactively, I guess the better question is why was it not claimed at the time? They clearly went unbeaten in SEC play.

LSU claims the 1935 national title

quote:
LSU has claimed a national championship for the 1935 season (pre-NCAA tournament), but not on the basis of any determination by an external selector. (LSU is the only school that officially claims a national championship on the basis of a win in the American Legion Bowl, an event that made no claim to determine a national champion.

My guess is it depends on whether they were utilizing tiebreakers at the time. If so, there was no head to head (outside of the SEC Tournament) but I believe Kentucky had the better overall record (with OOC).

LSU had the better conference record. Has the SEC ever factored OOC record into any sport’s standings?

I don't know about standings, but they use tiebreakers for SEC Tournament seeding that have varied over time.
ETA: They were both undefeated which would result in a tie either way. You couldn't necessarily say "better" unless they were playing a round robin schedule, in which would have a head to head to determine the standing.

The titles are ours. Give it up.

Idk thats a good question. We have another footbsll natty from the 1908 season as well that we haven't claimed to this day. So, we truly have 5 nattys in football... not 4. Our fans don't get it either bc it's completely legit. We were named co champs with Penn state by the National Championship Foundation and just as much a right to the claim as penn state does. It makes zero sense and it still pisses our fanbass off. Im sure that eventually our AD will finally claim it but still.

LSU literally made up a self claimed "title" in basketball.

Yeah. Many titles are subjective. This one is not. It’s literally just the standings.

The fact that LSU fans like yourself don't even know which school you "shared" the title with might be a good reason as to why you should not claim it.

Any football “national title” prior to the 1936 season is not real. They are all retroactively claimed and highly subjective.
