Dear,

As we navigate the evolving landscape in college athletics, we are working diligently to ensure we continue to uphold the standard of excellence that is expected at Alabama.

Related to this effort, we are making you aware of a change that many of our peer universities already administer and will be reflected in your upcoming season ticket renewal application. Effective this fall, the athletics department will no longer cover the 10 percent sales tax on athletic tickets. With this change, you will see the addition of state and local sales tax – which is set by and paid to the respective tax authorities – on your 2025 Football TIDE PRIDE and season ticket renewal application that is set to be distributed next week. Please note that sales tax will only apply to the ‘ticket’ portion of the overall cost and does not apply to the TIDE PRIDE contribution.

While there have been numerous changes in college athletics over the last few years, one thing that remains constant and crucial to Alabama’s distinct success is the strong support that our fans provide to our student-athletes and coaches. We will continue to make game days in Tuscaloosa second to none, invest in our fan experience, and achieve historic success.

We are grateful for your unwavering support and loyalty to Alabama Athletics.

Roll Tide,

Greg Byrne
Director of Athletics

So there is a 10% increase in the cost of the tickets but they're framing it as passing the sales tax along to you now.

I for one am extremely excited about this new era of higher costs to fans and supporters, with much lower investment in improving fan experiences with things like facility upgrades.

10% increase on ticket costs most certainly is offset by everyone's 10% raise they got this year

Declaring a commitment to investing in the fan experience in an e-mail about the cost of tickets going up is pretty fricked up. Serious "haha, eat shite peasants" energy.

I personally like the "well others are doing it, so if we follow along, it's not as bad." And then act like Bama is some kind of leader in college athletics

Byrne has certainly had some successes at Alabama, but his continued tone deaf mentality toward the fans now has me seriously questioning his competence. The pitch to hard working fans to contribute their hard earned dollars to NIL was bad enough. Fans have complained long and loud about the atrocious concessions experience at BDS and CC, but does he care? Hell no. And now this. Eventually, demand for season tickets will plummet, if it hasn't already.

Is this 10% a NIL fee for athletes?

Definitely didn't get a 10% increase in wins.

Bama hasn't had to pay any $50 million coaching buyouts in nearly 2 decades like nearly every other SEC program has...some multiple times...yet now act like they don't have 2 nickels to rub together.

Revenue sharing starts this season. It’s going to be around 22 million bucks that they got to come up with on a yearly basis. Things will become more expensive until demand won’t support it.

Then they need to share their existing revenue with players instead of wanting more allocated in addition to existing revenue.

Take a % of the tv revenue, concessions, ticket sales, etc and give it to the players each year if that's where we're at. Don't try to create an entire separate bucket for players and start telling people to chip in.

The NCAA has completely fricked up NIL to the point where the vast majority of the money isn't truly "NIL". NIL in the strictest sense is me making money off my name, image, and likeness. My name. My image. My likeness. Not being paid from a collective. And certainly not being paid to play.

It’s a legal way to pay players so if you want to compete better get those checks rolling.

It doesn't have to be legal. All the courts did was rule that Jalen Milroe can't be restricted himself from making money off selling memorabilia, allowing his name and image to be used in advertising, making promotional appearances. It didn't rule that universities have to be allowed to facilitate that through collectives. The NCAA can bring that to a screeching halt if they want to and leave the players on their own to make their own deals.
