Kalen DeBoer was asked whether there has been any consideration to adding Ryan Grubb to the coaching staff. He mentioned their shared history and how “I think the world of him as a coach.” He said Grubb is “working through his process.”
“Gotta see what he does. And I’m here for him whenever he needs me. That’s always going to be the case.”

I sort of take this to mean Grubb is probably looking at what NFL opportunities he may have. If he doesn’t land an NFL job or some other job, DeBoer will look at bringing him in.

I will say this about DeBoer, he is the undisputed master of putting together a lot of words that connect to one another grammatically and form proper English sentences but that convey no actual information.

I like him, but I can't even watch the press conferences. There's zero information about anything.

I'm not sure which dropoff was bigger - the level of play on the field or the usefulness of information from press conferences.
We have all sorts of great quotes from Saban over the years but I don't think we will ever get anything from DeBoer worth remembering.

“You know” is his favorite saying

I'm shocked reporters still show up at his press conferences. There's no way they're getting anything worth reporting.

This just tells me Grubb doesn't want to come to Alabama. He's looking for other options and if there's nothing else he may consider coming. I'd rather not have him. You don't want someone who doesn't want to be here.

It's not really Grubb, it's his wife.

Is he talking about Jalen?

I stopped watching the pressers mid season. It was clear he was never going to say anything worth hearing.
People that spin everything instead of just speaking the truth... I don't respect that, and frankly dislike anyone that operates like that. Comes across weak and disingenuous.

Listening to Nick Saban's first press conference, I knew we were going to be winning big games and competing for titles sooner rather than later.
He knew exactly what he wanted to communicate. He answered any question you'd want to know about his program in his 10-15 minute introduction. You could just listen to him and know this guy wants to win. Winning consumes him. He wants to dominate his opponent and despises losing. I'm not saying DeBoer isn't the same way but he doesn't communicate that intensity. It may be there but he's not projecting it in the media engagements.

I think his whole mantra is team togetherness. The stuff we want to know, at least some of it, gets said to the players only. Everything public is coach speak drivel. I'm not saying it's NOT the best way to run a program, but it definitely makes for boring press conferences.

A lot of coaches have won that way. Saban's mentor, Bill Belichick, broadly operated the same way with his required media engagements. More than one way to skin a cat but our current head coach's style is more frustrating when things aren't rolling just like the fans hope.

The fact that CKD seems content to run it back with Nick Sheridan after how disastrous our offense was in the second half of the season gives me great concern about the future of the program. This is the equivalent of Saban bringing back Major Applewhite in 2008.

Perhaps he’s like the majority of us who understand why we could not run his offense due to limitations at a certain key position?

Saban was an aberration. Men like him that are that driven every day of the week don't come along very often, especially in the world of coaching. DeBoer probably has the toughest job an Alabama head coach has had since Ray Perkins: following a legend. Every word, every phrase, the way he talks, the way he walks, is going to be judged against Nick Saban.
