The biggest spender won the title. Get used to it. This will be the norm

We all knew it was coming

Truth.
Weird thing is 90% of it was spent retaining players it already had, but the TV talking heads never mention that fact.

Herbie made sure to mention it quite a few times

This is what people wanted.
You combine three things that have spelt the death knell for college football:
1. Transfer portal w/ 0 wait time
2. NIL
3. Expanded playoffs, meaning that even if the big spender drops a couple of games they still get in when it counts.
Ohio State at 10-2 with no conference title doesn't make a 4 team playoff.
We now have all the ingredients of a no-salary cap, no-contract NFL.
Fans are getting what they've been demanding, because most were too stupid to realize what it would ACTUALLY lead to.

What comes to mind when you see all these SEC basketball teams turning into blueblood programs at the speed of light? I think NIL and the magic portal potty are changing that landscape as well.

It was spending + nearly all upperclassman who hung around because they have never won a playoff game nor Natty.
Next year won't be the same for them losing majority of the team

This cannot be stated too much.
I know these players are only here for 3-4 years (5 at most), but it's still something for fans that they get associated with their schools. Just look at how much fans care about these players long after they left and their NFL careers?
Burrow hasn't taken a snap for LSU in 6 years; Derrick Henry hasn't run the ball for Alabama in 10 - but we still care about these players. Even to the point when transfers were rare and players can demonstrate love of both their older and newer homes (Jalen Hurts).
Now you get crap like this and you have to admit the casual fan (not a common sight here but still makes up the majority of fanbases) will have NO idea who's playing for their own team year after year.
We, as fans, literally watched the end of football as we know it - and that's not hyperbole. I mean multiple generations got to see players associated with their favorite teams and take that legacy into the NFL - be it your Joe Namath to Derrick Thomas to Derrick Henry, or your Gatski - Jackson - Newton, or your Cannon - Faulk - Burrow, those days are gone.
Yes, I know Burrow and Newton transferred, but both had to be willing to take a chance - especially Burrow, who, while obviously talented, had not yet proven himself at that level.

I’m sure you are totally against teams without a conference title playing for the National Championship…I agree it’s crap

Like we're sure that LSU fans are upset about a team with two regular season losses playing for a national title.

While the expanded playoffs will undoubtedly open the door to teams that normally wouldn't have had a prayer's chance in the earlier formats, it also makes it easier for more powerful teams (such as 2024 Ohio State) to take advantage and feast in the post-season. What the expanded playoff gives us is the illusion of parity. However, it's simply going to give teams like Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, etc. mulligans if they finish below expectations in the regular season.
The 2024 Ohio State-Michigan game was the biggest upset in that storied rivalry's entire history. It is now forgotten, a foot note in the long history of the sport. The regular season has lost its meaning as a result.

Ohio State retained all of their players not only for NIL, but just as importantly, to beat Michigan, win the B!G and win a national title. Almost all of those 10 or so players would have gone in rounds 1-3 and they would have made more money in the NFL. Most of the NIL was spent on retaining their players, and it shows a lot about their culture. Texas and Oregon, those 2 at least, had higher NIL.

LSU was the Champion of the best football conference…they deserved it.
Not at all similar genius.
