I noticed that Wisconsin has come right out and accused Miami of tampering recently and I remember Miami of Ohio accused Bama of tampering for Graham Nicholson.

My sense is that schools, players, boosters, coaches are realizing that there is basically no way for the NCAA to catch a school/coach/booster tampering, so it's only going to get worse. The NCAA has no subpoena powers to obtain phone records or bank records. Besides, a lot of these players go through "agents"/handlers who in turn deal with other schools/coaches/boosters.

Is it illegal? No, but it's making the game seem even more unsavory/sleazy, which is kind of sad.

The sport is cooked and it is the administrators of college athletics's fault not the players and their agents.

It’s most definitely the agents that are pushing players to transfer every year. They are getting killer commissions off of these young men every time they switch schools. It’s making bank now, but at the expense of the sport and is unsustainable long term.

This statement is an absolute strong arm move by the B1G to force ACC to reprimand Miami if they don't cancel their deal with that player.

Anyone wants to know who controls things just look at how the SEC and Sankey got made too look weak while the bug manipulated all outcomes to insure they got the most home games, participants, etc.

They're just operating within the structures that exist to maximize their profits. College administrators have to create constraints that lead to different incentives and limits behaviors that are undesirable to the schools.

The root cause is the unwillingness for college athletics to recognize where things were heading and get out in front of the court rulings and lawsuits. They stuck their heads in the sand instead, so here we are.

Did the state legislature repeal the law they passed after the Antonio Langham affair that makes it a felony for an agent to interact with a student athlete while they are playing or was the law contingent upon the interaction's impact on eligibility? Hadn't thought of that wrinkle into reading this post.

Obviously it's both.

They have. They get murdered in court and overruled every time.

I hate the attitude that greed and putting yourself above everyone else to the detriment of future generations is somehow acceptable when certain groups engage in it. They're all fricking assholes. They're just assholes for different reasons.

I foresee a future, for myself, where it is more enjoyable to watch former Alabama players from the Saban era, play on Sunday, than watch current players from the DeBoer era on Saturday.

They aren't imagining the system that will stand up to legal scrutiny but instead imagining "what if we keep everything just the way it is but with this minor concession that doesn't address the core issue."

The problem is football players don't want to work for a billion-dollar industry for scholarships while they bankroll non-revenue sports and departmental largesse.

And yes, I get there are all sort of roadblocks and complications to overcome but the college administrators decided to not be proactive and have their existing system picked apart. So now we have something rife with internal contradictions that cannot be resolved. So it will either burn to the ground or have something new built on top of it.

The players always wanted this. It's like corporate employees going Union and then the corporation going out of business. We're watching it live.

Don’t leave out the parents. You know damn well they’re telling their kids … X university is paying more than Y university.

But I’m sure they’re saying you need to go X university because the academics is so much better and your education means so much more then the $12 million Michigan is offering lol

The NFL rakes in cash with a unionized labor pool. The problem, in my estimation, is the lack of a union and the existence of a nearly unfettered free market for player talent. The players being able to go wherever they want for whoever will pay the most whenever they want is simply free markets at work.

The masses are slowly catching on. It’s just not fun anymore.

I’ve watched far more NFL than CFB this season, and that trend will probably continue.

Exactly. It was okay before to bring in guys from all over the country because in order to see the field it took a deep commitment to the organization.

The players that come in now, even from Alabama, couldn't give a shite less about the program. They are only here for $$$$ and will hit the door the second they get a better deal to play elsewhere. The players no longer care, so why should the fans?

Is cfb really that fun to watch knowing that every player on the field is a millionaire who's only wearing your school's jersey because they're getting paid to?

People will still watch. The cheapest tickets to the NCG Monday night are nearly $2,000.
