They have a long history that says they'll hire somebody just as negative toward UGA.

Chip Towers definitely hasn't been perfect and was complicit in the article that got the other AJC reporter fired, but it's still important to remember that our beat writer dorks don't work for the university and aren't press release writers for the UGA Sports Information Department.
Their expectation is to call it like they see it.

I don't know how long you've been following Georgia football, but the AJC has been seeing it with a negative bias for a long time. Mark Richt disliked them just as much as Kirby does. Furman Bisher was on the anti-UGA bandwagon long before that and they've had a stream of Dawg haters covering the Ga beat for all those years.

Give me sunshine pumpers any day, otherwise, they make a living as petty, conniving bastards praying on college kids.

Just like SEC fans are prone to think "ESPN hates my favorite team," fans are also prone to thinking that "the big newspaper in my state hates my team."

Out of the all the AJC Dawg reporters than I can remember, the guy Carter from about 15-20 years ago was the most despised.
The hate from fans was intense. If Carter was around today, Carter definitely would have death threads or might already be dead lol.

His asinine questions at the press conferences were also tiresome.

Chip Towers used to post on the previous bored under the username ‘Geeb Dweebler’. True story.

Maybe in some of those cases the fans are correct. How many of the sports editors of those big newspapers have been prior contributors to an article alleging game fixing by the athletic director/former head coach of the state flagship university? An article that contributed to the demise of the publishing company when the US Supreme Court found them guilty of libel.
How many of those newspapers sanctioned a long running series of of sensationalist, incomplete and misleading articles that read like hit pieces aimed at student athletes and employees of that same university, had them followed around their college town to see where they spent their free time, and then were forced to fire the writer and issue corrections because of shoddy reporting? A writer who was then revealed to have a prior history of similar problems at a former newspaper not even included in his AJC bio.
All of that aside, I've read plenty of biased news reporting over the years and the AJC's reporting on UGA football has frequently fit that description.

My issue is how hard they pursued off the field gossip stuff that was not sports.
