This one was killed. Sandy Hollow WMA. Killer said he was “shooting at a deer”.

If you shoot at moving bushes that you did not confirm 100% were a deer, and then had enough of said deer in the sights to know you were aiming at the right part of a deer, that's negligent homicide. So dumb. And if this guy was drinking...no sympathy from me. I don't want him in the woods ever again.

Open to an explanation though, if there is another one.

How freaking difficult is it to identify what you are shooting at?

There's no "spray and pray" in hunting. Should be a criminal charge

In all honesty I would be perfectly fine with WMA’s banning firearms and being archery only. It would eliminate so many idiots from entering the woods who have no business being there. (Downvote away)

I 100% support this. Louisiana public would have a monster herd of bucks in no time.

This right here. If you accidentally kill somebody with your car you get vehicular manslaughter. Start charging these assholes and people will be more sure about what they’re shooting at.

My son in law has bow hunted there a few times. Killed a doe last year. I think it has bow only areas and a primitive weapon area. I could be wrong though. The article said the klller, that’s what I’m going to call this MFer, shot him with a 45. I’m assuming that’s a primitive weapon

KENTWOOD — A Baton Rouge deer hunter was shot and killed while hunting in Tangipahoa Parish over the weekend, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.

Roberto Garcia, 61, was killed when another hunter shot him in the Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management Area near Kentwood on Saturday.

LDWF agents said that Garcia was shot by a .45 caliber rifle around 8:45 a.m. The hunter who shot Garcia told agents that he was shooting at a deer. The hunter added that he did not see Garcia behind the deer because of vegetation.

I can't imagine the chances of the guy being in the line of fire past a deer. Did the guy miss the deer completely? I assume both were on the ground, if not this is definitely BS.

Yeah, I don’t exactly buy that story at face value.

It would drastically improve deer hunting in Louisiana. We are one of the most over-hunted states in the country. I’ve listened to podcast recently specifically talking about coonasses over hunting the southern part of Kansas, Missouri and Illinois too

The idea of being on public land, knowing there are people all around you and still just shooting at movement or a dot is absolutely insane. I feel 0 sympathy for the people pulling the trigger and they deserve whatever punishment they receive.

I see the accident waiting to happen all season long in Pearl River WMA. Duck hunters have taken over and do no wear orange.

They say duck hunters don’t need orange and then about 7am they all start walking the sloughs trying to jump wood ducks. Same woods and sloughs deer hunters are hunting. No orange. When called out they yell were duck hunting. Accident waiting to happen.
Example: Duck hunter walking woods no orange jumps hogs, hogs run towards deer hunter. Deer hunter shoots at hogs not seeing the duck hunters behind the hogs. Accident waiting to happen

The duck hunters claim they are duck hunting but several have also claimed to have shot at hogs while walking the sloughs. They hide behind the we are duck hunting excuse

Mainly young kids duck hunting with their buddies. Squatted trucks, POS civics, and a trail of energy drinks though the woods

I have walked a decent amount on Sandy over the last 2 years. I rarely run into other hunters but I try to hit off peak times. It was always my understanding the entire WMA is considered a small game emphasis area.

I would love to see them get rid of the 5 days of rifle and the 2 weeks of primitive (the definition of primitive firearm is ridiculous). I have no issue with bow hunters and kids/disabled hunting with a chaperone.

Sure you would. But not in the name of safety. You only want people hunting the way you hunt. You don’t want people shooting your deer with rifles.

Everyone will downvote me, but I am not wrong.
