The Sooners have lost 26 players to the portal since Dec. 9th leaving only 56 scholarship players on his roster. That's 29 players short of the 85 max limit. Plus, 24 of the 56 players are FRESHMEN, too!

Next season in 2025, roster limits will change from 121 to 105 and the scholly limit to 105. However, the SEC has decided to keep the scholly limit to 85 for 2025. Question is, why?

The portal and NIL are the two-headed beasts destroying this sport and the interests of fans. Who wants to go watch your home team get beat because you simply don't have the manpower on hand to win the battle?

One day we’ll look back on what the NCAA allowed college sports become and say that’s when I started hunting more.

To be fair, a lot of those that portal’d didn’t play much this year due to injury or coaches decision. We’ve started a LOT of freshman down the stretch. The portal and NIL are still a bunch of malarkey and are ruining CFB.

Things have changed. If you keep employing a coach that sucks, you will suffer the consequences.

Has precisely shite to do with "a coach that sucks".

It's all about getting down to 105 from 127+ players, guys who never saw the field leaving to find opportunities elsewhere, walkons leaving, guys running out of eligibility or leaving for the draft, guys whose career is spent mostly in the boo-boo tent being told to look elsewhere, and misfits leaving, all at once.

The only impactful name(s) on the entire list are Nic Anderson, who has spent 2 of his 3 years at Oklahoma standing on the sidelines modeling leisure-wear all season and maybe Andrel Anthony, although I doubt he ever returns to previous form after destroying his knee.

But sure whorn.......it was an exodus about Venables.

We lost 2 or 3 good players the rest were non contributors. We lost 0 defensive players so thats intact.

The portal gains - who can’t play - are all offense and will be difference makers.

46 seems low but when you add 25 class plus portals who will get schollys we’ll be at the 85 limit by next summer.

All we did was push players to portal early to give them best chance to latch on to a team. Had we not told them until later then sure we have more players but it hurts them finding teams.

All the teams who have games coming up and have not lowered rosters will have to pay the piper at some point. We are just ahead of the game.

We hit our low point this year bur D is intact and so many 1 and 2 years guys got valuable playing time. We brought in the top portal QB and another one for depth. Still have Hawkins who will play today. Our new OC is not game-planning the game but is coaching the QBs. Expect to see an improved Hawkins today.

I would love to see other teams numbers when adding in 2025 commits and current rostered scholly players. There will be some big names hit the portal over the next week too

None were starters. They are still favored and should beat Navy pretty handily.

Navy is a run team and OU has the best run defense. Could be a long day for Navy

This isn't really accurate relative to who played a lot and who would have played a lot if not for injuries...

There are nine guys who played a lot or would have played a lot who left.

Arnold (QB)
Sharp (TE)
Walker (CB)
Anderson (WR)
Farooq (WR)
Hester (WR)
Anthony (WR)
Thompson (WR)
McCullough (LB/Cheetah)

The troubling thing about it as an OU fan is that every single on of these guys ended up at an SEC or a Big Ten school with the exception of Anthony... who ended up in the ACC...

So somebody out there thinks they are good.

Conversely, OU's incoming portal acquisitions are coming from lower level programs... some of them from really low programs like UA-Pine Bluff, Kennesaw and Western Carolina.

Most go to smaller programs so they can start. Another huge batch of players never find a team. This seems like it would be a great opportunity for a 30 for 30 episode to follow some players who end up in portal and their struggles to find a viable team with most striking out.

This is win win situation for OU.

They win- they beat a very good team and this will launch the team to a great 2025. Future is very bright and they will be the team to beat in the SEC

They lose- what did you expect? They had 54 players and team wasn’t motivated since it’s the Armed Forces Bowl.

Arnold (QB) Could be good. Has high ceiling. Needed a fresh start and has a lot of issues to overcome

Sharp (TE) Not a major contributor. Got lots of passes only due to us having no WRs. Cost us all momentum in LSU game by throwing INT. Can’t run jet sweep too slow

Walker (CB) Good player but have better on roster

Anderson (WR) Nic is a good player hated losing but was injured all year so he will have to overcome that

Farooq (WR) Good player but hurt all year. Hurt us in bowl game a year ago likely cost game with his turnovers.

Hester (WR) Only played due to injuries to top 5 WRs. Has some good moments but not a difference maker

Anthony (WR) Hurt all year so lost nothing but potential

Thompson (WR) Depth WR played some due to others injuries.

McCullough (LB/Cheetah) Good player hated losing him but have great depth here

Arnold (QB) - bust turnover king who's afraid to throw the ball. Suffers catastrophic meltdowns in games. Might be "salvageable", at best.
Sharp (TE) - bust QB pretending to be a TE
Walker (CB) - total liability in man coverage. Lost his job to a freshman.
Anderson (WR) - leisure-wear model but was a productive starter a year ago when he actually played football.
Farooq (WR) - starter with very limited production. Best year was '22 and dwindled down to nothing. Has no speed and has nagging foot injuries all the time. WR2 or WR3 at best.
Hester (WR) - dud
Anthony (WR) - destroyed knee. Doubtful to ever return to previous form.
Thompson (WR) - dud
McCullough (LB/Cheetah) - tweener misfit for any defensive scheme. Lost his job to Dolby.

Come again?

Yeah, I’d be surprised if BV makes it past the 2025 season. That was a bad/lazy hire IMO at the worst possible time with them moving to the SEC and NIL/portal changes.

He simply doesn’t strike me as HC/CEO material. I’ve been wrong before, though, maybe he’ll surprise me. But I always considered him a DC til retirement.

If the portal's not changed to require a player to sit out a season upon transferring, collegiate sports will be hugely impacted. Even teams in the playoffs are losing players, so who would want to watch a bowl game outside of the playoffs? With opt outs and transfers, you're likely watching scrub teams if you spend money to attend a bowl game.
