A lot of ink has been spilled on this website from Henry's detractors, with many people on this forum refusing to rank him in the elite tier of SEC running backs. However, as he approaches 1,800 yards on the season at the age of 30, has your perspective on his career at Alabama been altered any?

Where does he now rank in the pantheon of SEC ball carriers?

Derrick Henry is easily a top 3 running back in SEC history and likely finishes his NFL career as a top 5 RB all time as well.

Idk maybe they talked crap when he was at Bama, though I didn't see any of that. Most fans have nothing but respect for him. I think that its because of his character and people just like to see greatness.

He’s incredible and one of the best all time. He won a heisman. What exactly are you bitching about?

Nothing but respect for him when he was at Bama and now in the NFL. Always a class act besides being a tall, tough, speedy RB who could run through and away from tacklers and almost always make yards just falling forward while being tackled. In short, a beast.

So right behind Herschal Walker and Bo Jackson? Ahead of Emmit Smith?

Maybe.

Probably not.

I'm not sure he can even make the top 10.

About a couple of miles behind Herschel.

#1 SEC running back of all time then, and still is today.

And several light years ahead in brain function. He has to be one of the dumbest "scholar"-athletes ever.

What any one does in high school, junior college or college has absolutely nothing to with their professional stats/performance so anyone with common sense will keep the two separate.

He was an elite running back but top 3 or top 5 in SEC history is probably pushing it a bit much.

Top 20 is pretty elite.

It's all subjective anyway.

Derrick Henry is the only RB in the history of the sport to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season in high school, college, and the NFL. With the common sense gifted to you by the Almighty, what does that tell you about Derrick Henry?

Henry played more ranked teams in a single year than Walker did in his entire career @ Georgia. You can count the number of ranked teams Walker played and won on 1 finger, 2 if you want to count his decoy game and you lost multiple times.

You played a total of 1 ranked team in 1980 when you won the NC.

And despite playing against better competition, Henry broke his SEC record and did it on less carries.

Henry has already eclipsed Walkers NFL stats, and done it in less years than Walker. A common theme, because he's the better RB.

Henry is the LeBron of football. He just shouldn’t be able to do what he does at his size. It’s wild. He is average 5.8 ypc at 30 years old.

I’ll admit I didn’t think his style would translate to the nfl. Didn’t think he was particularly quick. In college he relied on being the biggest and fastest. Didn’t think he could do the same in the league. I was wrong.
