First Heisman, great dude, successful in the NFL, funny as hell, and the biggest BAMMER in all of media. Dude used to hang out on our sideline in a plain white T-shirt hyping up our back up punter long after he was in the NFL

I kinda worded this post wrong, because he obviously is in the conversation. You’re right though, we’ve just had so much success that Mark can kinda seem like just another character in all of it, which is insane.

100%. Aside from perhaps Devonta Smith, I’m not sure that anyone has ever worn crimson and maximized their potential more than Mark Ingram. He embodied the work ethic and spirit of those early Saban teams, and even as an undersized back in the NFL became a consistent force for just over a decade. He remains my favorite running back to ever suit up for the Tide.

I love Ingram but the GOAT of the Saban era is Julio. That commitment laid the foundation for the dynasty and he went on to be a future NFL hall of famer.
Saban knows what Julio meant to the building of the program. When he got the job he was in Foley within a week.
ETA - found the old Julio HS highlights. I probably watched this 100 times in early 2008

I still remember when some people made the old we don't even want a Heisman winner because Alabama wins as a team argument to console themselves over the fact that we were one of the few historically successful CFB programs that didn't have one. Now we get to debate which of our Heisman winners was the best.

Great player, great ambassador, in the conversation sure but in the years ive been watching I think Alexander and Henry were better RBs.

When you consider his Gump-ness, he's up there. In terms of a player, loved the passion he played with. However, we've never had a RB that can touch Derrick Henry as a ball carrier.

The best player in the Saban era is Derrick Henry or Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Devonta Smith is the best player of the Saban era.
From the walk-off catch in 2017 to the 2020 season.
It was the COVID year so what he did gets forgotten a little bit I think. He won the Heisman, Maxwell and Camp award as a WR.

That is definitely the definition of a high school 5 Star. Brutally strong. I watch him play in high school and you could tell he was special.

DT is at the very top of Mount Rushmore for any Bama players. He would be near the top for all NCAA players or at least should be.

I catch myself thinking 2008 was not that long ago before getting a reality check from the video quality of that highlight reel.
