What if SMU just refused to play in the ACCCG?

Obviously, in reality it would not go in their favor
It certainly feels like going to the championship game is working against them, though. That feels like a dangerous precedent.

Same issue as uga 2023. No reason to play in the game.

Not really. Clown conferences can cancel their games and could just go to a two conference playoff. Fine with me.

This is what I'm thinking as well.
Just forfeit - how could the committee drop them without any more football being played?

For a team like SMu to join the conference brand new and win first year regardless of playoffs would be a pretty big deal for their program especially given their history.

They could just not show up, then arrive 6 hours late and say they were lost or even better "we got bus-jacked on the way from the airport and held hostage for 6 hours" what happened, where is everyone?
The committee wouldnt drop them for getting jacked through no fault of their own would they?
guaranteed playoffs, no risk

A forfeit is counted in CFB as a 1-0 loss
SMU should forfeit and guarantee a quality 1 point loss

They just do it. I think the committee would absolutely blast a team for forfeiting. I think they treat it as a 100-0 loss and drop them accordingly.
They would send a message.

not if they got bus jacked and couldn't make kickoff

SMU has been completely irrelevant for 30+ years and they’re one game away from getting an ACC championship. I think I’d try to get some hardware.

And on this week’s 30 For 30; how the only football program to ever get the death penalty got it not once but twice. Stayed tuned for the Phony Express, where we explore the death of the SMU football program. For the second time.

Unfortunately for SMU, they're not playing at the Superdome
