SEC has some big non-conf wins the last few days

That Auburn / Alabama game is shaping up to be a real barn burner
Posted on 11/27/24 at 7:53 am to pioneerbasketball
See now Lindenwood in basketball is reasonable.
2 other SEC schools play them this non conf as well.
But imagine your football program being down so bad you play them.
smh

Auburn and Bama fans have been saying this since the conclusion of last year. Both teams are stacked with skill and experience.

Seems like bama is always playing the late game.

Broome looks really good so far.
I feel like I've asked this same question multiple years now, but why did he come back (again)?
What does this dude have to do to play himself up out of the second round? Be more physically strong inside with his size?
I know these guys all want to be a lottery pick, but a two-way contract or bench-center role is still pretty damn good. Isn't he 23 or 24 at this point?
In summary, please get his arse out of there after this season.

3-3 Virginia Tech vs 3-3 South Carolina oh boy. I'm sure people will be glued to the TV sets.

I agree Broome is borderline NBA but NIL collectives happily pay for that skill. Broome is in a sweet spot where Auburn is helping him as much as he is helping Auburn. Same for Mark Sears really. Yeah Sears could make an NBA team but is he maximizing his abilities if he is second string?
Playing in packed college arenas in front of rabids is greater than 2 way contracts and the camaraderie is second to none.
In recent years we have had borderline players like Shariffe Cooper enter the NBA when they shouldn't have, and NIL is helping prevent lot of that unnecessary attrition.

“Johni wanted to be back. Johni Broome wanted to be back,” Pearl said. “His family wanted him to be back.”
“They just wanted to be able to be treated fairly, and I think that the collective treated him fairly. We’re really glad to have him back.”
“You’ve gotta weigh what the NIL could be versus what being on a two-way contract or a second round or Europe or things like that,” Pearl said. “I think that’s something his family is in the process of doing.”

I think getting guys like Broome, Sears, RJ Davis, etc back into college for senior years instead of 2 way contracts or Europe is probably the single best part of NIL that I've seen so far.

Providence Friars
Giving away my age, but — as God is my witness, I will never forget Alabama vs. that fricking Cinderella Providence team in the 1987 NCAAT.
Coached by a then-unknown Rick Pitino, Billy-the-Kid Donovan (yes, that Billy Donovan) scored 26 and they beat the shite out of us in the Sweet 16 enroute to the Final Four.
Our future coach, Mark Gottfried, was also playing in that game.
The cold, existential reality of life as an Alabama basketball fan.

Don't sleep on the Friars. They have a habit of ruining people's weeks.

Broome was a freshman when Pistol Pete was a senior. I think that's correct.

Is that really true?

Pio, who's winning the Creighton-Texas A&M game?
