I miss those days.
$10.5 million for a QB who has yet to play a down of football at the collegiate level is totally asinine. I have gotten shite on quite frequently over the past three years for my "lukewarm" fandom, but this is one of the reasons why I've grown out of love with the game right here.
Unchecked NIL salaries for players, the transfer portal run amok, ESPN practically running the sport as its unofficial commissioner. Some of you might like this new era we find ourselves in, but stories like Bryce Underwood are why I'm growing to dislike the game.

People have been saying "Hey this is stupid" for years, but your car dealers and law partners keep throwing out money. Now Larry fricking Ellison is involved.
Here's my take- Larry is doing it to blow it up and make your senators and house reps mad enough to go with Tuberville on getting some form of restraint or CBA-type thing going. That money is meaningless to him and I had no idea he even cared about Michigan.

I liked it that we were the only program who had ever paid a player, and that we paid $180,000 with nobody else even bidding.

Jordan Crook used to play for Arkansas and has been kinda nice for ASU, so he tweeted out that he needed a new car and folks just crowd funded him a used Expedition. It wasn't even NIL. It was just people sending money for fun.

No clue. I just know that the various talking heads on ESPNU Radio have floated that out there as a possibility in years prior to have headed the current morass off at the pass.
Theoretically, they could acknowledge the history of amateurism and the benefits of being a student athlete on scholarship in any limitations.

Wasn't the free market "your worth is what people are willing to pay you to market for them" the whole idea ? If that's the case then shouldn't we start having a problem with Beyonce publicly endorsing kamala for 10 million? Where do you draw the line. On paper these players are supposedly drawing these paychecks for something other than football. If a backup middle linebacker develops some sort of huge following as a streamer and makes 10 million dollars on legit endorsements is that different? They opened this bullshite Pandoras box and it's going exactly how everyone knew it would.

If want to see the future of CFB look at the programs with the highest ranked NIL setups. We need to summon up all of our NIL and booster money just to get rid of our current coach

i've said this since the beginning, but if you want to help your team out, it should be into a big pot that gets split evenly between every player on the team and you get that check when you graduate. what we have now is a shitshow to say the least

I agree. Last Saturday, I did some work Saturday morning at my office (catching up after I had been off on vacation the week before), followed by playing my two grandsons outside during the afternoon, followed by attending Saturday Evening Mass. Got home and my wife & I watched one quarter of the UT-UGA game with her commenting “I don’t like Tennessee and I hope GA spanks em.”
Which they eventually did though I did not know that until Sunday morning when I checked the scores.

If it is broken down per year if incentives to stay and performance metrics, 2.6 per year is great value. You cannot win without a QB. These are 150MM organizations. The QB is more valuable than the coach.
