As crazy as it sounds without some big upsets outside the SEC the next few weeks the SEC may only get 2 teams in the playoff. Years like this is why the SEC Commissioner wants a 4 team guarantee if we move to a 14 team playoff and why they should have had a 3 team guarantee when they made the 12 team playoff. Years like this is also when you need to hope to have the SEC tiebreaker to make the SECCG to control your own destiny.

ACC (2): Barring a big regular season upset both SMU and Miami will be in the playoff. An 11-1 regular season Power 4 is almost a lock to get in.

Big 12 (2 or 1): If BYU loses this Big 12 championship game then 2 teams here get in the playoff. Only BYU if they win the Big 12 championship game.

Big 10 (4): Oregon, OSU, Indiana and Penn State are almost locks to get in. See above.

At large: Notre Dame at 11-1 with that A&M road win will be in.

5th conference champion: Boise State or someone else will get this automatic spot.

There are the 10 or 9 teams besides the SEC that will likely make it.

Just thinking depending on how things shake out Ole Miss could actually be left out of the playoff due to their overall schedule if 3 teams don't get in from the SEC.

SEC teams still alive

Shorthorns
The stinking Vols
Georgia
Bama
Ole Miss
A&M

Bolder teams are all “lose and you’re out”

The interesting quandary will be the SEC championship game. We could very well have two 2 loss teams playing for the title.

Will a 3 loss title game loser get left out?

Yep, having the lesser conferences in as part of the equation potentially leaves some worthy SEC teams out.
So it boils down to the same thing it always has: if you want to be assured of a spot in the playoffs, you damn sure better win your conference championship.

We will be going to 16 teams pretty soon and eventually 24 like it should be.

I dont think the committee will hold a 3rd loss against the SECCG loser but if another team was higher up on the playoff ranking before that SECCG loss they would go in front of the SECCG loser probably.

I think Ole Miss might really end up the big loser here especially if Tenn beats GA but they have themselves to thank for scheduling that joke out of conference slate.

I should hope so, but it’s going to cause some difficult conversations.

I doubt a 2 loss ACC team gets in over a 2 loss SEC team.

ACC title game loser is out, especially if its SMU, if it is a choice between them and a 2 loss SEC team.

You have your chance to knock OM out of the playoffs in the next game.

If the 2nd loss is in the ACCCG they are very likely to get in over a 2 loss SEC team that didn't win the conference except if that team was ranked higher than them prior to that game.

They said last night Mizzou has a 60% chance of making it if we win out.

We'll see how things shake out, but I think the only way OM gets in the CFP is for the committee to decide that a 2-loss OM is better than a 1-loss Penn State AND a 1-loss Indiana.

Two ACC teams and two Big 12 teams will not get in. Four Big 10 and four SEC teams will get in, thinking otherwise is just foolish. It’s about money not equity.

If Tennessee beats Georgia then Georgia is out before Ole Miss.

2 are almost a 100% lock in the Big 12 if BYU loses that game and I think the odds are much higher that an11-1 Miami or SMU pre ACCCG get in over a 10-2 SEC non-conference champ.

You’re kidding yourself. You don’t have a decent win on your schedule, and got skulldrug by the good teams you did play.

Literally everyone ahead of you has to lose, some of them twice.

Ole Miss doesnt have to lose. If TN beats GA I think they are almost a 100% lock to miss the playoff. If GA wins they are still 50/50 to make it or not depending on if BYU wins or not.
