Actually started last nights. Several games were played in Mobile.

Yeah Hoover stomped Fairhope last night at the Met, and Vestavia Hills went on the road to "upset" Mary G Montgomery.

Opelika and Auburn cruised to victory too.
Baker beat Hewitt-Trussville 17-14 after Trussville couldn't score on their chance in the second overtime. That makes Baker the only 7a, region 1, team to beat their 7a, region 3, opponents and advance.

My old team Niceville in Florida won big tonight. I think they make a run to the final four. Probably be against Edgewater, Lakeland, and of course St Thomas Aquinas.

Floridas playoff system is so fricked. Niceville was 9-1 with a loss to Mosley. Mosley was 9-1. Niceville got the 1 seed and Mosley the 3 seed

Not surprised. Trussville needs to get that Floyd dick head out of there. He’s a Gus Malzahn protege and gets paid $1,000,000 to basically be the Miami Dolphins of 7A when he won multiple state championships in Arkansas.
2 cities that aren’t 5 miles from Trussville have won a combined 5 state championships since he’s been coach at Trussville and both of them are basically ghettos. That means it’s all coaching. Trussville has an unlimited checkbook and 3 city sized neighborhoods full of out of state talent and that bum still can’t win even with a Propst-less Hoover and mediocre Prattville (comparatively).
EDIT: clarification that was his offer to come to Trussville, not yearly salary.

Those schools don't compete in 7A and have better athletes relatively speaking. Hewitt fancies itself a hoity-toity community and so they don't have the depth of athletes of Clay and Pinson.

Just because they are near each other doesn’t make them similar.
Look at their black populations.
HTHS: 251
CCHS: 1095
Pinson: 533
It’s no coincidence why Clay has been so successful. They have a much larger talent pool than other schools. It’s the same reason why Hoover and Central-Phenix City have been so consistently good.

I would tend to agree with you on this if
1. Huffman wasn’t too much in the mix year to year and
2. Pinson Valley was a doormat until the late mid 2010s.
A bigger black population certainly helps but it’s the coaching. Trussville got Jimbo’d

Pinson was bad for years because of bad coaching. Hewitt is not going to be able to consistently field championship teams no matter who is the coach. They just don't have enough athletes.
They are still a solid program.

Huffman is extremely poor and low funded. Same reason why most inner city schools in Huntsville and Mobile suck too.

Doormat is a little extreme. They were fairly average, pretty much what you’d expect given their funding level and demographics.

There is no amount of coaching that would help them beat Hoover or Thompson.

Trussville beat Hoover last year. But I agree, that was the exception.

Huffman High is part of Birmingham City Schools. Birmingham City Schools spent $13,870 per student in 2022.
Hoover is part of Hoover City Schools. HCS spent $13,556 per student in 2022.
The idea funding is an issue is laughable.
For athletics, there is a difference since boosters and the community often put their own money up for things like equipment, etc.
That's not really why inner city schools suck. Coaches typically don't want to go work there for obvious reasons.

Yeah, no.
I'll use my area for an example.
Per pupil spending FY2022
Montgomery County: $11,290
Elmore County: $9,890
Autauga County: $9,176
Number of failing schools as defined by the state BOE in 2022
Montgomery: 14
Elmore: 0
Autauga: 0
There are a whole range of reasons why many if not most schools in Alabama's urban areas suck, but funding isn't on the list.

Huffman spends more than Montgomery county. Why aren't they better? They spend more than Vestavia does.
Spending is not an issue with education. At all. It's always laughable to me when people think money will solve education issues. Schools have plenty of money. More than enough.
When it comes to sports it makes a difference because poorer communities have a hard time raising funds on their own outside of normal education spending. County schools also have a harder time than city systems with with 1 or 2 high schools.
