If I was out there playing with those monsters I’d opt for the old school Bill Goldberg pad setup.

I get why they do it... because they probably feel quicker and faster.
But one helmet whack to the kneecap and you've got yourself a nice case of sub or suprapatellar bursitis that might be avoided by wearing a knee pad.

When I played, my knee would dig into the ground several times a game. I would never trade that safety for vanity.
