Reported by AJC. If this scenario is true for any team EVER it's completely
unforgivable and heads need to roll. LINK

Go to 9 games and this fixes itself.

Rankings are subjective though

Pretty easy to understand.

If UGA wins out in the regular season and Oregon loses a game, UGA will likely finish the season #1.

But the SECCG (and the bye it brings) is controlled by conference record. UGA has one loss in the conference. A&M currently has 0. LSU currently has 1. Texas has 1. The tie-breaker scenarios can allow UGA to not be selected because their entirely conference record based based.

This may be the most covered topic on the board now. It’s actually a best case scenario for UGA.

Id rather not have the bye. Home playoff game would be awesome

I get your frustration, but you're still looking at things with a short term mindset. You need to look at things with a basketball mindset. Make the tournament, and win all your games there. THAT'S the prize.

The 5 seed is arguably better than the 1 seed.

#1 Seed
12/07 - SEC Championship Game
12/20 - Bye
12/31 - Quarterfinals vs #8 or #9 (likely #2/#3 team in B1G or SEC)
01/10 - Semifinals vs #4, #5 or #12

#5 Seed (assuming you missed the SEC CG)
12/07 - Bye
12/20 - Home Game vs #12 (likely G5 team)
12/31 - Quarterfinals vs #4 (likely Big 12 or ACC Champ)
01/10 - Semifinals vs #1, #8 or #9

There is no debate, 5 seed would be better.

*for playoff. I do believe winning SEC championship is a big deal

I will laugh if the AP #1 misses the SEC CCG.

I don't even care. Just make the playoffs, and we have a chance. I think we can lose one more and do that.

I understand what you're saying... but the difference is that if you get to the SECCG with 1 loss, you can lose and aren't actually eliminated from the playoff, while all the games for the 5-seed are elimination games.

the other part of it is that you likely run into one of the elite teams earlier.

To be honest, I think the best draw is the #2 seed. The #1 and #2 seeds are likely SEC and Big 10 champs and are probably the two best teams in the playoff. #3 and #4 are the weaker conference champions. But #5 is likely really good too.

As the #2 seed you're more likely to not run into one of the best teams until the championship game and still get the bye.

Easier? No doubt. Better? Arguable.

Winning games as the #1 vs the better competition could have benefits from a confidence standpoint.. overcoming adversity.. playing to a standard.. etc

One of the ACC or Big 12 Champs, or maybe even the G5 Champ will knock off a 5 seed at some point.. See TCU vs Michigan. See Boise vs Oklahoma. Teams play up or down to their opponent all the time..

Of course, you can argue that if a team loses to those teams, they weren't good enough to win it all anyway.. and maybe that is true.. but maybe it isn't..

Both are good options. I believe we can all agree with that.

In 2011 Bama wasn't in the SEC Championship game, but got a mulligan into the BCS and won it all.

Valid argument, and that may prove to be true.

I like 14 teams.

Top 2 CC = bye

Six home games for the other 12 teams.

Guaranteed Spots
1 SEC
1 B1G
1 ACC
1 Big 12
1 G5
+ 9 Wildcards (highest rated teams per BCS style ratings system - SOS should matter)

1st Round - Home Games for Higher Seed
Friday - Games 1, 2 & 3
Saturday - Games 4, 5 & 6

2nd Round - Home Games for higher seed
New Years Eve - Games 1
New Years Day - Games 2, 3 & 4

Semifinals - Home Games for higher seed
Monday - Games 1 & 2

College Bowl - Neutral Site
Monday

Screw the Bowls! Everything doesn't have to be about money.. The home games would be legit.. and teams up north would really benefit from this setup.. and I think the overall sport would benefit with this change.

Hence why no-divisions was predicted to be more harmful than good.

One can criticize divisions, but they were designed to eliminate confusion of the SECCG participants.

#1 seed = CONFERENCE CHAMPION TITLE
(can’t say that doesn’t look good in history books)

Sure. It would be nice to have.. but it isn't worth the risk if a loss would knock me out of the playoffs.

Idk how you add value to it at this point though. It's not really any different than basketball or baseball now..

While winning those conference championships is nice, but getting to Omaha or the Final 4/Elite 8 means way more..

If a CC meant a home playoff game in the 2nd round.. that would make it worth it for sure

Look at the previous p/o format: majority were conf. champs, but only 1 won the cfb title.

How’s it any different other than # of teams?
